Student/Faculty Research Highlighted
At April 28 Student Research Day

 MAILED:  April 23, 2003

EAU CLAIRE - University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students will once again display the results of their student/faculty collaborative research and independent student research at the 11th annual Student Research Day April 28. Posters will be on display in the Council Fire Room of the Davies Center from noon to 5 p.m.

The event highlights student research accomplishments and the important role faculty and academic staff play as mentors in the scholarly activity process, said Dr. Christopher Lind, assistant vice chancellor and director of the Center of Excellence for Faculty/Student Research Collaboration. Research Day encourages dissemination of research results from all disciplines in the UW-Eau Claire academic community. All students and faculty as well as community members are invited to view the displays.

This year's projects represent student/faculty collaborations in 30 departments and units, with 180 displays involving 345 students and 129 faculty mentors. Each presentation has at least one faculty mentor, with some faculty involved in multiple collaborations.

A seven member judging panel made up of faculty in various disciplines from Carleton College, St. Olaf College, University of St. Thomas, UW-River Falls, Gustavus Adolphus College, Edgewood College, and WiSys: The Wisconsin Technology Foundation will select a few posters in each category for special recognition. The categories are arts and humanities, behavioral and social sciences, business and professional studies, natural and physical sciences, and graduate entries.

Funding to support the research projects came from a variety of sources including the UW-Eau Claire Center of Excellence for Faculty/Student Research Collaboration, the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Inc., the Blugold Fellows Program, the U.S. Department of Education McNair Fellows Program, Research Corporation, American Chemical Society-Petroleum Research Fund, the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, Sacred Heart Hospital, Oncology Nursing Society, National Park Foundation, Canadian Social Sciences, Geological Survey of Canada, U.S. Geological Survey and Maine Geological Survey. Support also was provided within academic departments of the university.
