EAU CLAIRE - Brazilian pianist Cristina Capparelli Gerling will present a piano concert featuring the works of Brazilian composers at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 24, in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Gerling, of the Universidade Federale do Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, will be the featured artist at the opening of the 15th Annual Midwest Conference on Latin American Studies.
Although Gerling is committed to playing all styles of piano music, she frequently is invited to perform the works of the newer generation of southern Brazilian composers. For this performance she will play nine compositions, including "Atraente" by Francisca Gonzaga, "Azikiré" by Alda Oliveira and "Suite Floral" by H. Villa-Lobos. The performance may represent the American premiere of several other works by Brazilian composers.
Following the recital, a reception sponsored by the UW-Eau
Claire Foundation will be held in the Foster Gallery.
Tickets are $7 and may be purchased in advance by contacting La Vone Sneen,
UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education, (715) 836-3636 or sneen@uwec.edu. Tickets
will also be sold at the door on a space available basis.
The concert is sponsored by UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education/UW-Extension; UW-Eau Claire departments of foreign languages, history, political science, and music and theatre arts; Center for International Education; College of Arts & Sciences; UW-Milwaukee Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies; UW-Eau Claire Professional Development Program; and the UW-Eau Claire Foundation.
