Earth Week Activities

EAU CLAIRE - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host
a series of Earth Week events April 22 to 26 to help educate the campus and
greater Eau Claire communities about environmental issues and to celebrate Earth
Day. All events, unless otherwise noted, will be held in Davies Center.
Tuesday, April 22
- 4 p.m. - Chippewa River bank clean-up. Everyone welcome.
Meet behind Hilltop Recreation.
Wednesday, April 23
- Noon - Talk by Paula Kleintjes, biology faculty, Ojibwa
Room, "Environmental Impacts of War."
- 1 p.m. - Talk by James Phillips, chemistry faculty, Ojibwa
Room, "The Climate According to Dr. Jim: A Concerned Scientist's Best
Assessment of Global Climate Change."
- 2 p.m. - Talk by Aaron Ellringer, Eau Claire community member,
Ojibwa Room, "Alternative Energy, Biofuels and Personal Responsibility."
- 3:30 p.m. - Evan Weiher, biology faculty and Outdoor Recreation,
birding and habitat tour by train at Tiffany Wildlife Center. Sign up in advance
at the Outdoor Recreation Center in Hilltop Basement.
Thursday, April 24
- 10 a.m. - Talk by Zoltán Grossman, geography faculty,
Badger Room, "The Crandon Mine and Wisconsin Environmental Alliances."
- 11 a.m. - Nature Hike with Joseph Rohrer, biology faculty.
Take a break from the indoors, enjoy the outdoors and learn about our local
environment. Meet at the wooden bridge at the bottom of the stairs going up
the hill on the south side of the Phillips parking lot.
- Noon - Talk by Karen Pope, library, Badger Room, "Women
in Environmental Movements."
Friday, April 25
- 11 a.m. - Live music on the Campus Mall with De Yarmond-Edison.
- 5 p.m. - Critical mass bike ride. Ride to raise the profile
of cycling in Eau Claire, to create car-free space in the center of our city,
to have fun, to meet friends and to create a vision and experience of a possible
better future. Meet in Owen Park.
Saturday, April 26
- 8 a.m. - Spring tree planting trip in Buffalo County.
Leave your mark on the world by planting a tree. Meet behind Hilltop Recreation
Center.
- Noon to 10 p.m. - EARTH FEST 2003, Rod and Gun Park. Live
music, activities, speakers and more! Earth

Earth Week is organized by the Student Senate, The Conservationists,
Progressive Student Association, Outdoor Recreation and the Eau Claire Earth
