UW-Eau Claire's Vocal Jazz Ensemble,
Just We Four, to Perform April 30

EAU CLAIRE - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Just We Four, will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The performing members of Just We Four are seniors Maureen Fox, St. Cloud, Minn., Abby Fromader, Platteville, Courtney Gritzmacher, West Allis, and freshman Julie Koeller, Appleton.

Directed by Dr. Daniel Newman, associate professor of music, the ensemble will begin the concert with "That Cat is High," arranged by Manhattan Transfer and adapted by Newman. The concert will continue with "Bye Bye Blackbird/Bye Bye Blues," arranged by April Arabian and Newman; "I Can Dream Can't I," arranged by Brad Rees; "Route 66," adapted by Fox and Fromader; and "Tico Tico," adapted by Newman.

Toward the middle of the concert the ensemble will sing "Ocappella," arranged by Manhattan Transfer and adapted by Newman; and "I Got Rhythm," adapted by Newman.

The performance will end with "How High the Moon," arranged by Gritzmacher; "Choo Choo Ch' Boogie," arranged by Newman; and "Zombie Jamboree," arranged by Gritzmacher and Michael Falk.

Special guest at the concert will be Michael Slowenski, singing bass.

Vocal Jazz Ensemble is open by audition to singers and instrumentalists who want to learn authentic vocal jazz idioms and technique. The ensemble, which varies in size and make up each year, emphasizes solo and small group performance and presents a public recital each semester, performs in the annual Cabaret production, appears in occasional performances with Jazz Ensemble I, and performs in area high schools. The repertoire consists of vocal jazz charts, and jazz arrangements of pop tunes. Members are encouraged to arrange for the ensemble as well.

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727 or 1-800-949-UWEC, are $3.75 for the general public; $2.75 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and free for students with a university ID.
