UW-Eau Claire Wind Symphony
To Present Spring Concert April 27

EAU CLAIRE - The Wind Symphony at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will present a concert at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 27, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The ensemble, conducted by Dr. R. Mark Heidel, assistant professor of music and theatre arts, will begin the concert with "Toccata Marziale" by Ralph Vaughan Williams. The Wind Symphony also will perform "Sensemaya," composed by Silvestre Revueltas and transcribed by Frank Bencriscutto; "Chester" by William Schuman; and "Variations on 'Carnival of Venice,'" composed by Jean Baptiste Arban and arranged by William Schmidt, featuring senior Stacy Kern, North St. Paul, Minn., on bass clarinet. The ensemble will continue with "Elegy," composed by John Barnes Chance and directed by senior comprehensive music major Timothy Doleysh, Appleton.

The concert also will feature "Carnival March" composed by Ivar Lunde Jr., professor of music, and the world premiere of "Overture to Aladdin McFaddin" composed by professor of music, Michael G. Cunningham.

The ensemble, under the direction of guest conductor Rodney Hudson, associate professor of music, will perform "Festive Overture," composed by Dmitri Shostakovich and transcribed by Donald Hunsberger. The Wind Symphony will conclude the concert with "Children's March: 'Over the Hills and Far Away'" by Percy Aldridge Grainger, dedicated in memory of Dr. Donald S. George, professor emeritus of music and director of bands at UW-Eau Claire from 1968-1995.

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727 or 1-800-949-UWEC, are $4.75 for the general public; $3.75 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.25 for students with a university ID.
