EAU CLAIRE - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music
and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances
the week beginning Monday, April 21. All events are free and open to the public.
Tuesday, April 22:
- Soprano Holly Tomter, Cumberland, will present a recital
at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The senior
comprehensive music major will begin the program with "Three Sentimental
Ballads" by Charles Ives. Tomter also will perform "Three Lieder
of 1814" by Franz Schubert, "Ah, my darling, we could grow together"
by Bedrich Smetana from "The Bartered Bride," and "Someone
to Watch Over Me" by George Gershwin. Senior Karen Wilber, Eau Claire,
will accompany Tomter on piano and UW-Eau Claire alumnus Jason Kraft will
assist her on piano.
- Vincent Rose, Farmington, Minn., will present a composition
recital at 5 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
- Bravura Bassoons, comprised of the Cane Mutiny Bassoon
Ensemble from UW-Eau Claire and the University of Iowa Bassoon Ensemble, will
present a concert at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts
Center. The concert will begin with Sonata Pian'e Forte, composed by Giovanni
Gabrieli and arranged by K. Fletcher. The performance also will include Concerto
No. 3 by Joseph Bodin de Boismortier; "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik,"
composed by W.A. Mozart and arranged by A. Hawkins; Sonata para Dois Fagotes
by Francisco Mignone; and Fou de bassoon by Bernard van Beurden.
Thursday, April 24:
- The Student National Association of Teachers of Singing
(SNATS) will present a recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas
Fine Arts Center. The program will begin with "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,"
composed by Don Raye and performed by senior Jacqueline Cobian, River Falls,
senior Amanda DePons, New Berlin, and junior Christine Schweikert, Coon Rapids,
accompanied by sophomore Stacie Olson, Neenah. The SNATS recital also will
include "The Vagabond," composed by Vaughn Williams and performed
by freshman David Peet, Dawson, Minn., accompanied by freshman Melissa Sommers,
Suamico. Senior Danielle Fields, Bruce, accompanied by senior Rachel Weix,
Spencer, will perform "I Got Rhythm" by George Gershwin, and senior
Jessica Timman, Plymouth, Minn., accompanied by senior Kendra Sampson, Cottage
Grove, will perform "On My Own" by Claude-Michel Schonberg.
Sunday, April 27:
- Soprano Mitra Sadeghpour, assistant professor of music,
will present a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the
Haas Fine Arts Center. The performance will begin with "Le Violette"
by Alessandro Scarlatti. Sadeghpour also will perform "Son tutta duolo"
and "Spesso vibra" by Scarlatti. The program will continue with
"Chi Sa, Qual Sia, K. 582" by W.A. Mozart and "They Might Not
Need Me," "The Night Has a Thousand Eyes" and "Over the
Fence" from "Days and Nights" by Lori Laitman. Sadeghpour will
be accompanied on piano by Barbara Wimunc-Pearson, professor of music, and
assisted by tenor Mark Mowry, a guest artist, and baritone Robert Knight,
associate professor of music.
