EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music
and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances
the week beginning Monday, March 24. All events are free and open to the public.
Tuesday, March 25:
- Sigma Alpha Iota, an international women's music fraternity, will
present a concert at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts
Center. Various works will be performed, including "In His Eyes"
from "Jekyll and Hyde" by Frank Wildhorn, "Moonlight"
by Suzann Thompson and "The Swan" by Edward MacDowell.
Wednesday, March 26:
- Soprano Emelia Polodna, LaCrosse, and baritone Steve Howe, St. Paul, Minn.,
will present a music theatre recital accompanied by Stacie Olson, Neenah,
on piano, at 5 p.m. in the Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
Polodna is a senior music major, Howe is a junior music major, and Olson is
a sophomore music therapy major. The performance will begin with Polodna singing
"The Simple Joys of Maidenhood" from "Camelot" by
Frederick Loewe, followed by Howe singing "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables"
from "Les Misérables" by Claude-Michel Schönberg.
The performance will conclude with Polodna and Howe singing "With So
Little To Be Sure Of" from "Anyone Can Whistle" by Stephen
Sondheim.
Thursday, March 27:
- Piano Studio will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall
of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Students of Dr. Alexandre Dossin, assistant
professor of music, will perform works of Sergei Prokofiev.
- Trombone Studio will present a recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall
of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The concert will begin with "Andante et
allegro" by J. Ed. Barat and conclude with "Elegy for Bass Trombone
and Piano" by Alfred Bartles. Trombone Studio performers include freshman
Kenyon Scheurman, River Falls; sophomore Adam Boll, Fifield; junior Patrick
Bents, Eagan, Minn.; senior Sean Solberg, Minot, N.D.; sophomore Colin Gilliland,
Fond du Lac; senior Keith Hilson, Eau Claire; freshman Randal Pingrey, Baraboo;
freshman Henry Seroogy, De Pere; senior Joe Hartson, Oconomowoc; sophomore
Becky Yoose, Lancaster; and junior James Yardley, Duluth, Minn. Accompanists
include senior Kristin Yost, Sisseton, S.D.; sophomore Yukiko Fujimura, Kanagawa,
Japan; sophomore Claire Blauvelt, Waukesha; and sophomore Jessica Wahl, Verona.
Sunday, March 30:
- The University String Orchestra will present a concert at 2 p.m. in Gantner
Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The ensemble, founded and directed
by Paul Kosower, professor of music, will perform the "Holberg Suite,
Op. 40" by Edvard Grieg and Sinfonia No. 8 in D major for String Orchestra
by Felix Mendelssohn.
