 MAILED:  March 5, 2003

EAU CLAIRE - An international music ensemble under the direction of University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire alumnus Morten Bøe will visit the Midwest March 11-16.

Tubakvartetten, a tuba and euphonium quartet from the Vestby Cultural School in Vestby, Norway, will work with Dr. Jerry Young, professor of music at UW-Eau Claire, March 11-13. Bøe studied tuba under Young at UW-Eau Claire from 1988-1992. The visit to Eau Claire also will include performances at Memorial High School, Wednesday, March 12, and Osseo-Fairchild High School, Thursday, March 13.

In addition, Tubakvartetten will attend and perform at Tubonium, a tuba and euphonium workshop sponsored by the Apple Valley School District March 14 and 15 at the Apple Valley High School, and perform at a Norwegian church service at the Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church in Minneapolis, March 16.

The ensemble is comprised of four students from the two school wind bands in Vestby. The quartet was formed in the fall of 2000 by Bøe, director of the Vestby Cultural School, and has won several regional ensemble competitions since its formation. The musicians range in age from 14 to 18. Tubakvartetten performs a variety of repertoire, ranging from arranged classical music to jazz/pop and newly written selections.

Vestby is a community 45 kilometers (28 miles) south of Oslo with a population of 12,000 people.
