Results for Regional Math Meet
At UW-Eau Claire Announced

         EAU CLAIRE  Eighteen western Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota high schools sent 175 students to participate in the 21st annual regional Mathematics Meet held Feb. 15 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
         The Eau Claire Memorial High School team, The Discrete Fleet, took first place in the large school AAA division. Another Eau Claire Memorial team, The Deriving Force, won second place.
         The Discrete Fleet team featured Matthew Beckler, Chrissa Capozzi, Takek Elgindi, Jacob Jurmain, Colin Meighen, and Vinay Rao.
         Matt Bryan, from Park Center Senior High School, Brooklyn Park, Minn., took first place in Class AAA individual honors. He was offered a $500 UW- Eau Claire scholarship funded by a grant from Xcel Energy to the sponsor of the meet, the UW-Eau Claire mathematics department.
         Second place AAA honors went to Jacob Jurmain of Eau Claire Memorial. He was offered a $300 UW-Eau Claire scholarship.
         Tied for third-place honors were Brandon Nemzek from Eau Claire North High School, Michael Purdham from Park Center, and Adam Wolf from Eau Claire Memorial. Each was offered a $200 UW-Eau Claire scholarship.
         The Ellsworth High School team, Logarithmic Lunatics, won the medium school AA division. The West Salem High School team, Panther Powers, placed second.
         The Ellsworth team consisted of Bill Dodge, Zach Kulak, Matthew Larson, Dan Moldenhauer, Joseph Thalacker, and Ian Zwadlo.
         First-place Class AA individual honors went to Chris Getter of West Salem. Dan Moldenhauer and Ian Zwadlo, both from Ellsworth, tied for second-place honors. Jenna Serum of Durand High School, took third-place honors.
         Getter was offered a $500 UW-Eau Claire scholarship. Dan Moldenhauer and Ian Zwadlo were both offered a $300 UW-Eau Claire scholarship. Jenna Serum was offered a $200 UW-Eau Claire scholarship.
         In the small school A division, the Royall Radicals from Royall High School, Elroy, placed first. The McDonell Mackmaticians II, from McDonell Central High School in Chippewa Falls, placed second.
         The Royall team consisted of Dan Bohnert, Damon Campbell, Stephanie Davis, Lance Schumann, Kyle Sulik and Megan Witt.
         Logan Baier, from McDonell, took first-place Class A individual honors. He was offered a $500 UW-Eau Claire scholarship.
         Ali Akyuz, Cashton High School, placed second and was offered a $300 UW-Eau Claire scholarship.
         Tying for third-place Class A honors was Damon Campbell and Dan Sulik. Each was offered a $200 UW-Eau Claire scholarship.
         Other Class AAA individual winners were Tarek Elgindi and Colin Meighen, both from Eau Claire Memorial.
         Other Class AA individual winners were Alex Zierl of Durand, Grady Jensen of West Salem, and Gary Wheeler of Durand.
         Other Class A individual winners were Stephanie Davis from Royall and Erin Schifeling from Regis High School, Eau Claire.
         The winning Eau Claire Memorial team was advised by Debbie Smieja. Curt Dumermuth advised the first-place Ellsworth team, and Kirk Calkins advised Royall Radicals, the first-place finisher in Class A.
         Other advisors were Clint Fenner of Eau Claire Memorial, Chris Milne of West Salem, and Carolyn Peloquin of McDonell.
