New Exhibit in Foster Gallery
To Feature Landscapes
MAILED: Feb. 17, 2003
EAU CLAIRE — "WISCONSIN: Landscape," a new exhibit at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, will open with a reception at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, in the Foster Gallery of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Featuring 38 works by 19 Wisconsin artists working in a variety of media, including paintings, drawings, prints, photographs and fibers, the exhibit will run through March 13.
According to Tiit Raid, UW-Eau Claire emeriti professor of art and curator of the exhibit, the show includes work by local and regional artists, as well as artists with state-wide or national reputations. Raid said he first thought of organizing a whole show of landscape paintings, but soon decided to open it up to all media because he thought a wider range of work that referenced the landscape in some form would be more interesting for students. All of the participating artists are represented by one or more professional galleries in Wisconsin.
Artists featured include Rebecca Crowell, Osseo; Mark Horton, Eau Claire; John Meyer, Pepin; Tiit Raid, Fall Creek; Scott Robertson, Eau Claire; Madison artists Mary Bero, Barry Carlsen, Dagny Quisling Myrah and Dennis Nechvatal; Amy Arnstson, Lake Mills; Tom Jones, temporarily in Chicago, Ill.; Ruth Lull, Ashland; Warrington Colescott and Francis Myers, Hollandale; Jeb Prazak, Dodgeville; Ken Schneider, Waunakee; Fred Stonehouse, West Allis; Tom Uttech, Saukville; and Denise Presnell Weidner, Sheboygan.
Colescott and Myers will present a gallery lecture at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, in the Foster Gallery.
Foster Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays, 6-8 p.m. Thursdays and 1-4:30 p.m. weekends. For more information about gallery exhibits, call Tom Wagener at (715) 836-2328.
