UW-Eau Claire to Hold
Annual Internship Mania
MAILED: Jan. 23, 2003
EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students can explore internship opportunities and get valuable tips on seeking employment during Internship Mania 2003 Wednesday, Feb. 5. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.
More than 100 employers from the Chippewa Valley, other Wisconsin cities, Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois will staff booths highlighting their companies and internships in all areas, including chemistry and biology, social work, communications, business, medicine, law, history, theater, criminal justice, kinesiology, geology and geography.
For the fifth consecutive year, Academic and Career Services and various student organizations will sponsor the event, which includes resume and cover letter critiques. Academic and Career Services staff also will be available in the Skylight Lounge of Davies Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Jan. 30 and 31, for students who would like their resumes reviewed prior to this event.
Internship Mania not only allows local employers to recruit interns and future permanent employees, but also to promote their businesses to UW-Eau Claire students and faculty, and to develop a working relationship with the university community.
"Internship Mania allows students to do some face-to-face networking with a variety of employers," said Eileen Oswald, a career counselor at UW-Eau Claire and Internship Mania coordinator.
Oswald believes that interning is a critical task for students of all majors. "In the past internships were looked at as optional," she said. "But now they've almost become a required part of a student's liberal arts degree program."
Last year approximately 1,500 students attended Internship Mania.
Space is still available for interested employers. Register by going online at the Internship Mania Web site, http://imania.uwec.edu. Online registration will allow employers to receive immediate confirmation via e-mail and the ability to update their registration online prior to the event. The $75 fee includes booth space, valet parking, brunch and noon meal for representatives.
Employers who are interested in attending but do not have the funding for such an event may apply for an employer scholarship. Contact Oswald for more information at (715) 836-5358 or send e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
