Employment
Following are new employment opportunities at UW-Eau Claire. A complete list of all currently available job openings and additional information for each position, including application procedures, may be found on the Academic Affairs' employment opportunities Web site.

Communication and Journalism: Assistant professor with emphasis in broadcast journalism — 836-2528.
Mathematics: Assistant or associate professor — 836-3301.

Administrative Internship Opportunity
Provost and Vice Chancellor Ronald Satz is pleased to announce an administrative internship opportunity beginning in the spring 2003 semester and continuing through the 2003-04 academic year for a tenured UW-Eau Claire faculty member or an academic staff member with at least three years of prior service and a continuing appointment for the 2003-04 academic year.
The internship provides faculty and academic staff with an opportunity to learn about the operations of the Office of Academic Affairs by participating directly in its work. This is intended to be a 75 percent FTE administrative position during each semester, although the exact percentage may vary slightly given the specifics of the successful applicant's other assignment — for example, the teaching of a four- or five-credit course in some departments.
The intern will report directly to the provost and will carry the working title of interim assistant to the provost (the position previously held by communication and journalism professor Jan Larson). The successful applicant will continue to teach one course in her/his department or carry out the equivalent of quarter-time responsibilities in her or his unit during each semester of the academic year (with the home department or unit retaining the salary and FTE for covering the remainder of the person's workload).
Administrative duties will be full time during the summer; vacation/time off during this period may be arranged.
The position is designed to provide faculty and academic staff an opportunity to gain administrative experience and become familiar with a variety of administrative activities. The interim assistant will receive mentoring and professional development in academic administration and will contribute to the achievement of university goals as part of the Academic Affairs administrative team. Working closely with, and reporting directly to the provost and vice chancellor, the interim assistant will have opportunities to be involved directly in the administrative life and processes of the university and the university administration will benefit from a regular infusion of ideas and points of view from the faculty or academic staff member.
     Specific duties will include:
     • Assisting in the completion of special projects in consultation with the provost, his staff and other members of the university administration. These may include a variety of issues and projects such as planning the annual Academic Affairs opening week forum; work related to the assessment of the baccalaureate degree; program review; campus-wide professional development initiatives; curricular initiatives and program development entitlement processes; enrollment management; Plan 2008 and other diversity initiatives including the Visiting Minority Scholars/Artists in Residence Program; preparation of promotional literature for faculty and student recruitment, first year experiences and retention efforts.
     • Gathering information, conducting administrative research and preparing reports as requested.
     • Serving and participating as a member of the provost and vice chancellor's staff, the Academic Affairs Leadership Council and the chancellor's administrative staff
     • Serving and participating in other campus and UW System committees or task forces as requested.
Qualifications: Tenured UW-Eau Claire faculty member or current member of the academic staff with at least three years of service and a continuing appointment for the 2003-04 academic year; excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal relations skills; and recommendations from administrative supervisors.
Application Deadline and Process: Application deadline is Oct. 1. Applications will be reviewed by the provost with assistance from his staff. The person selected along with her/his department or unit will be notified by Oct. 21; other applicants will be notified shortly thereafter. To obtain an application, contact Linda Baumeister at 836-2320 or baumeill@uwec.edu.
UW-Eau Claire is an Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity Employer committed to enhancing the cultural and gender diversity of the campus.
