Report gives carbon emissions reduction strategies To achieve its goal of carbon neutrality, UW-Eau Claire must make structural changes and support additional environmentally friendly programs that will help students, staff and faculty change behaviors, according to "State of the University: UW-Eau Claire Carbon Emissions and Recommendations for Achieving Carbon Neutrality 2008," written by the Carbon Neutral Team. Applicants, nominees sought for EDI Fellowship The EDI Fellow will report to the chancellor and will work closely with students, vice chancellors, academic departments and key units including Admissions, Affirmative Action, Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, and Office of Multicultural Affairs. The fellow will work approximately two-thirds time to full time and will work on equity, diversity and inclusivity issues. More information.
UW-Eau Claire Foundation elects new officers
Casey J. Sylla, a 1966 UW-Eau Claire graduate, was elected president of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation board of directors at the board's annual meeting earlier this month. Sylla, a retired Illinois businessman, succeeds Bert Colianni '76, who had served as board president since October 2006. Also elected as Foundation board officers were Charles Grossklaus '69, vice president; Betsy Kell '73, secretary; and Jo Ellyn DeCesare '84, treasurer. New committee chairs include George Stoebel '74, investment committee; Scott A. Peterson '90, audit committee; Jo Anne Brandes '75, strategic planning; and Pete Fernholz '73, board development and nominating. Full story. Professors work to offer summer cultural experience to nursing students
Nursing professors at UW-Eau Claire are working to make it possible to share a summer nursing experience they believe to be educationally and culturally enriching with their undergraduate nursing students. Dr. Lee-Ellen Kirkhorn and Dr. Cheryl Lapp, associate professors of nursing, are seeking funding for a project that would allow student nurses to assist in providing health care at Camp Chi, an overnight summer camp located on Lake Blass near Wisconsin Dells and the village of Lake Delton. Affiliated with the Jewish Community Centers of Chicago, the camp serves Jewish boys and girls aged 9 to 16 years old. Besides the usual summer camp activities, the camp includes a strong focus on Jewish culture and rituals, and a program that welcomes a number of campers from Israel each summer and teaches about its land and people. of Phoenix Park area supermarket Dr. Brady Foust, UW-Eau Claire professor of geography, will present "A Supermarket Feasibility Study for the Phoenix Redevelopment Site" in the next session of UW-Eau Claire's "Ask a Scientist" series at 7 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Acoustic Café in Eau Claire. "Ask a Scientist" talks are geared toward the educated layperson and feature a 30-minute presentation on a scientific topic of current interest followed by a 30-minute discussion period. Dr. Geoffrey Peterson, UW-Eau Claire associate professor of political science, will present "Countdown to Election '08" from noon-1 p.m. Oct. 30 at Sweetwaters Restaurant in Eau Claire. The talk is part of the UW-Eau Claire Alumni Association's monthly "Let's Do Lunch" speaker series. Peterson, director of UW-Eau Claire's Political Science Research Institute, will examine the latest trends for the 2008 election and discuss how information from previous election cycles can help people understand what will happen in November. The UW-Eau Claire Blugold Marching Band, directed by Dr. Randal Dickerson, associate professor of music, will perform its second annual stage show at 4 p.m. Nov. 2 in Zorn Arena. The public is invited to the show, which will consist of three parts: "Greatest Songs of the Rock Area and BMB Traditions," "Homage to the Alma Mater and Blugold Athletics" and "In Honor of America."
