Faculty/Academic Staff Forums
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs will present Faculty/Academic Staff Forums this semester. The programs will be held from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. Wednesdays in the Presidents Room of Davies Center unless otherwise noted. Attendees are welcome to bring a brown bag lunch or tray.

'Safe & Sound' available online
The fall 2008 issue of Safe & Sound, a publication of the Wisconsin Department of Administration, Bureau of State Risk Management and the Wisconsin State Employees Union, is available online. 
Art & Design
Janet Carson (emerita) currently has her works featured in a show titled "In Support of the Arts: A Janet Carson Retrospective" at the Eau Claire Regional Arts Center in downtown Eau Claire. The exhibit, on display through Nov. 30, represents Carson's works from 1947 to the present. Each piece is priced for sale, and all proceeds be donated to the ECRAC art gallery renovation project. Foreign Languages
Patrick Day had his article titled "Homeland Security: How the Community Protects the Individual from Violence in the Fiction and Films of Ousmane Sembène" published in French Literature Series: Violence in French and Francophone Literature and Film, Vol. 35, 2008, pages 165-77. 
Geography and Anthropology
Harry Jol was a co-author with Charlie Bristow (Birbeck College, University of London) of a paper titled “GPR Surveys of the Jurassic Navajo Sandstones: A Potential Analogue to the Burns Formation, Meridiani Planum, Mars,” which was presented at the Planetary Dunes Workshop: A Record of Climate Change April 29-May 2 in Alamogordo, N.M. An abstract of the paper was published on CD-ROM. 
Psychology
Steve Baumgardner (emeritus) and Marie (Mickey) Crothers are pleased to announce the publication of their book, "Positive Psychology," by Pearson Publishing. The book reviews the research and theory related to the emerging area of positive psychology. It is designed to serve as a primary text for an undergraduate college course in positive psychology. The relatively new field of positive psychology is focused on developing a psychological and sociocultural understanding of the meaning, the measure and the means to a "good life." The book took nearly fours years to complete. Both Steve and Mickey thank UW-Eau Claire and the psychology department for their support of this project.
Fifteen UW-Eau Claire students from the behavioral emphasis in psychology attended the annual Mid-American Association for Behavior Analysis conference Oct. 3-4 in Champaign, Ill. Students presented results from four research projects sponsored by the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. Kevin Klatt was named president of MABA for the 2008-09 academic year.
