Dr. Marty Wood, professor of English and chair of the University Senate at UW-Eau Claire, has been named the university's interim provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. He will begin serving in the interim post Sept. 15. "Marty Wood has demonstrated mature and thoughtful leadership in his role in the Senate and in his participation in our strategic planning," Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich said in a Sept. 4 e-mail to the university community. "His every action and argument is directed at enhancing the quality of our university environment and exhibits a level of university citizenship worthy of emulation." Full story. Charrettes to focus on budget process, PEEQ
All faculty and staff are invited to help make a difference as UW-Eau Claire launches its new budget process and PEEQ — the program to evaluate and enhance quality. A series of four charrettes, sponsored by the University Planning Committee, will provide faculty and staff with information and the opportunity to give feedback on the proposed PEEQ process, as well as information on the university's new budget process. All university personnel are invited to attend. See the charrettes schedule above. The charrettes will begin with an information session, followed by an opportunity to ask questions and provide written comments. This year, in support of the strategic plan and as part of the new budget process, Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich has set aside $250,000 for proposals that address our strategic priorities. The charrettes will provide information on how to submit proposals. Also this fall, through PEEQ, an evaluation process designed to help the university community make informed decisions about allocating resources, every academic department and administrative and service unit on campus will be asked to complete a self-study report. The charrettes will outline the proposed process and questions for the self-study. Faculty and staff are encouraged to provide feedback and comments to help improve the process before it is launched in October. Background on these initiviatives can be found on the strategic planning and PEEQ Web sites. Four receive Classified Staff Scholarship
Four UW-Eau Claire classified staff members recently received scholarships from the Classified Staff Grant Fund. Receiving $250 awards were Wayne Kochan, custodian; Kylee Prestin, medical assistant in Student Health Service; Kimberly Vlcek, office manager in the Academic Skills Center and clerical staff member in Counseling Services; and Cynthia Welch, university program associate serving as office manager for Student Support Services and Services for Students with Disabilities. Two women who completed bachelor's degrees at UW-Eau Claire while working as full-time members of the university's classified staff established the Classified Staff Grant Fund to support other classified staff members pursuing an education while working full-time at UW-Eau Claire. Linda Haag, who is retired, and Susie Warden, who retired and then returned to work as a limited-term employee in Registration Services, created the Classified Staff Grant Fund through the UW-Eau Claire Foundation after completing their degrees to make certain other classified staff members had a similar opportunity.
