ORSP deadlines announced
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs announces the following deadlines:
• The Faculty/Student Research Collaboration and Diversity Mentoring Program Grants deadline is Sept. 15.
• The Faculty Sabbatical Leave Program deadline is Sept. 15.
Jack Bushnell's personal essay "Of Gardens and Diamonds" was published in the summer 2008 issue of Elysian Fields Quarterly.
Joel Pace chaired panels titled "Representing America" and "Canadian Reincarnations of Romanticism" and presented the paper "'Only Connect': Towards a Teachable Taxonomy of Transatlantic Romanticisms" at the 16th Annual North American Society for the Study of Romanticism Conference. The conference, "Romantic Diversity," was held at the University of Toronto, Canada, Aug. 21-24. Pace's paper was derived from basing a graduate class on the ideas in his recent Literature Compass article, which discusses ways to diversify the Romantic canon. The article has since been praised by the editors as "potentially groundbreaking" and selected as a promotional feature piece of the journal.
Jayne Bielecki will present a workshop on cultural intelligence at the Voices for Peace 2008 event Sept. 14 at Phoenix Park in Eau Claire. The event, which will run from 1 to 5 p.m., will raise awareness about the causes of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, their effects and possible solutions. The event also will provide a safe environment in which to express feelings about the war through art, music and literature.
