Faculty and staff invited to lunch and discussion
Faculty and staff are invited to join an Ameriprise Financial adviser for lunch and a discussion titled "Current Market Volatility and Your Tax-Deferred Retirement Plan." UW-Eau Claire alumnus Adam Mohr, a senior financial adviser for Ameriprise Financial, will lead the discussion from noon to 1 p.m. Feb. 26 in the Arrowhead Room of Davies Center.

ORSP to select 2009-10 faculty fellow
UW-Eau Claire's Office of Research and Sponsored Programs  seeks a faculty fellow for 2009-10. The primary focus of the fellow will be to work on special projects and assist with various aspects of ORSP programming, further detailed in the position description. The application deadline is Feb. 25.

Faculty/Academic Staff Forums
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs will present Faculty/Academic Staff Forums this semester. The programs will be held from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. Wednesdays in the Presidents Room of Davies Center unless otherwise noted. Attendees are welcome to bring a brown bag lunch or tray.

    • Feb. 18: Deb Pattee, curriculum and instruction, and Lance Dalleck, kinesiology, "Ms. Adventures in SELWT: Self Esteem, Leadership, Wellness and Teaming with Young Women."
    • Feb. 25: Erica Benson, English, "The dog needs out a lot anymore: Defining Dialect Areas in the U.S."

ORSP program deadlines
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs announces the following program deadlines.

    • The deadline for Summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates Grants, University Research and Creative Activity and the Kell Container Corp. Scholarship for Faculty/Student Collaborative Research is Feb. 16.

Curriculum and Instruction
Sue McIntyre presented "Dividing and Conquering: Basic Tools and Strategies for Adult Writing" at the Wisconsin State Reading Association's annual conference Feb. 6 in Milwaukee. She and Lynn Emmons of the Barron School District also gave a presentation titled "Active Vocabulary Strategies" at the same conference.

Foreign Languages
Dominique Thévenin's book review of Alain Fleischer's "Quelques obscurcissements" was published in the French Review, Vol. 82, No. 3, February 2009.

Condolences
Condolences to Gene Decker (emeritus), health care administration, whose father, Eugene "Red" Decker, died Feb. 10. Full obituary.
