Business
travel updates announced
The following changes, effective Dec. 1,
apply to both nonrepresented and represented employees unless specifically
superseded by the employee's collective bargaining agreement. The only
significant change is increased mileage reimbursement
rates. The increased mileage rates apply for any travel that
occurs after Nov. 30. More information
about mileage, meal and lodging reimbursement rates is available online.

State
tax form due Dec. 14
UW-Eau
Claire employees who are prepaying their 2008 state tax withholding
will receive a document from the Wisconsin Department of Revenue. The
form must be forwarded to Human Resources by Dec.
14 to assure that state tax will not be
withheld from 2007 wages on the first paycheck in 2008. For
more information, contact Jan Sikora at sikorajl@uwec.edu
or 836-5935.
Remember
power-saving computer practices
To
help reduce our costly electrical bills, the Physical Plant Planning
Committee of the University Senate, Facilities Planning and Management,
and Learning and Technology Services urges university employees to:
- Turn computer monitors and printers off at night.
Do not turn off your CPU /tower. LTS has been remotely turning them
to "stand by" mode automatically via Microsoft's Systems
Management Server (SMS). Leaving the computer CPU /tower in "stand
by" mode uses very little energy. The advantage of "stand
by" mode is that the computer can be woken up remotely —
for LTS to scan for viruses or for the user to control the computer
remotely. Also, "stand by" mode allows for quick startup
for the returning user. (Turn on the computer monitor, key CTRL-Alt-Delete
simultaneously and enter your password, and all your settings, etc.
are on immediately — no more "booting up" and loading.)
- For weekends and short vacations, turn off your
monitor and printer and shut down your CPU.
- For an extended absence, like a longer vacation
or absence for the winter or summer break, continue the practice of
turning off your monitor and printer and shutting down your CPU. Be
aware that for the first hour after the computer is eventually turned
back on, it will be slow as some automatic system updating is performed.
