Give a Kid a Book project planned
The Friends of the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library is coordinating the 13th annual Give a Kid a Book project Nov. 26-Dec. 14. This year Friends is working with Eau Claire Memorial High School's Teen Literacy Initiative and the UW-Eau Claire Association of Student Social Workers to bring new books for the holidays to area children in need.

New, unwrapped books can be brought to the public library through Dec. 14 or to the UW-Eau Claire Holiday Concerts Dec. 9 in Zorn Arena. Monetary donations in lieu of books can be placed under the evergreen tree at the public library or checks, payable to Friends of LEPMPL, can be mailed to Friends of LEPMPL, 400 Eau Claire Street, Eau Claire, WI 54701. The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs announces the following program deadline.

Program deadline:
        • The Academic Staff Professional Development Program deadline for the second competition is Dec. 3.

Geology
Kent Syverson presented a lecture titled "Deglaciation of High-Relief Parts of Glacier Bay, Alaska, and Maine: Implications for Scandinavia" at three different locations in Scandinavia as part of his sabbatical this fall. The locations and dates of the presentations were as follows: Aug. 29, department of geology, Göteborg University, Göteborg, Sweden; Sept. 4, department of physical geography and quaternary geology, Stockholm University, Stockholm, Sweden; and Sept. 14, department of geology, University of Bergen, Bergen, Norway.
