UW-Eau Claire celebrates Homecoming 2007 UW-Eau Claire encourages responsible drinking during Homecoming 2007 festivities. Authors event to honor published faculty, staff
UW-Eau Claire will recognize the hard work and self-discipline it takes for university faculty and staff to bring scholarly work to the level of publication or performance with the second Authors Celebration from 4:30-6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, in the Tamarack Room of Davies Center. The work of 35 authors will be featured, but the event celebrates the publishing accomplishments of all university staff by highlighting representative successes. Andrew Phillips, interim associate vice chancellor for Academic Affairs and dean of graduate studies, will speak briefly at 5 p.m. and hors d'oeuvres and drinks will be served. Faculty and staff are invited to join their colleagues for conversation and celebration. More information, including list of featured authors. Time remains to provide strategic planning input "I am pleased that so many individuals participated in the charrettes, especially students," said Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich. "More important, I am impressed by the thoughtful comments we have received. We are engaged in a very productive dialogue about the future of our university." Faculty, staff and students who couldn't attend the charrettes or would like to add to previously submitted comments can still do so. All the ideas from the charrettes are transcribed and available on the strategic planning website, and additional comments can be submitted using the online response form (responses may be submitted anonymously). Comments also can be shared through an online forum, where so far more than 60 people have registered to discuss the strategic planning work group ideas. The work groups will review all submitted comments as they refine their proposals during October. Final proposals will be given to the University Planning Committee in November.Events planned for Disability Awareness Month Planned UW-Eau Claire events include the following:
Concert to kick off All-Steinway School campaign
A concert featuring UW-Eau Claire piano faculty members and piano performance students will kick off the first phase of a UW-Eau Claire Foundation campaign to make the university's department of music and theatre arts an All-Steinway School. The concert, to be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center, will demonstrate the quality of Steinway pianos by featuring UW-Eau Claire's two existing Steinway concert grand pianos. To accomplish the All-Steinway School distinction, the university must use Steinway pianos in faculty studios, classrooms, practice rooms and performance venues. After the concert the public will be able to view some of the pianos the department hopes to replace. The concert is free and open to the public. Full story.
