Faculty/Academic Staff Forums
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs will present Faculty/Academic Staff Forums this semester. The programs will be held from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. Wednesdays in the Presidents Room of Davies Center unless otherwise noted. Attendees are welcome to bring a brown bag lunch or tray.

        • Feb. 13: Theresa Kemp, English, "Old Manors, New Manners and 'The Most Strange and Admirable Discoverie of the Three Witches of Warboys (1593).'"
        • Feb. 20: Rosemary Battalio, special education, "Expanding Boundaries: The Impact of Special Education in the Scotland Program."

Faculty/academic staff workshops and programs
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs announces the following program deadlines.

Program Deadlines:
       • The deadline for Summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates Grants, University Research and Creative Activity and the Kell Container Corp. Scholarship for Faculty/Student Collaborative Research is Feb. 15.

Strategic plan campus forums set for Feb. 25-27
The University Planning Committee will host campus information and discussion sessions Feb. 25-27 to review the draft strategic plan. The forums are open to all faculty, staff and students. The committee, joined by the chancellor, will answer questions about the draft plan and welcome comments and suggestions. The forums will be held at the following times and new locations:

       • Monday, Feb. 25, 1-2:30 p.m., Tamarack Room, Davies Center.
       • Tuesday, Feb. 26, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Tamarack Room, Davies Center.
       • Wednesday, Feb. 27, 3-4:30 p.m., Nursing Building, Room 104.

Copies of the draft strategic plan have been distributed to all faculty and staff. The draft also can be downloaded from the strategic planning Web site.

Affirmative Action
Caitlin Lee was elected president of the board of directors for the Hmong Mutual Assistance Association Jan. 26. Lee, the first woman to be elected president, had previously served on the HMAA Executive Director Search and Screen Committee. She also had served as a volunteer for the organization.

Bruce Taylor had two of his poems, “The Year the Crooner Died“ and “Frank” published in "Sinatra ... but buddy, I'm a kind of poem," edited by Gilbert L. Gigliotti, Entasis Press, 2008.

Philosophy and Religious Studies
Sean McAleer had his paper titled "Self-Knowledge, Self-Deception and Retaliation: Lessons from 'The Limey' and 'The Godfather'” published in Film and Philosophy, Vol. 12, 2008, pages 89-104.

Condolences
Condolences to the family of Elizabeth Stuck. Stuck, who worked in the Admissions Office at UW-Eau Claire for many years before her retirement, died Feb. 2 in Chippewa Falls. Full story.
