UW-Eau Claire celebrates commencement May 19 A reception for graduates and guests will follow each ceremony on the Central Campus Mall. If it rains, the reception will move to the Spruce-Tamarack Room of Davies Center. Tickets are required for admission to the morning and afternoon ceremonies. Full story. First women's studies majors to graduate May 19
The first students to major in women's studies at UW-Eau Claire will graduate May 19. Women's studies is a multidisciplinary field that looks at women's roles, contributions and impact on society, as well as women's relationships to issues and institutions. Honors Program celebrates 25th anniversary
Twenty-eight students will graduate with University Honors May 19, one of the largest groups since the first honors student graduated 20 years ago. The program's director, Paul Hoff, said nearly 600 students have earned University Honors since the program was founded in 1983. Currently there are almost 400 students in the program. “The honors program provides an extra measure of challenge and enrichment to academically distinguished students,” Hoff explained. “It challenges exceptionally able students to perform at their highest level, enhances their capacity for critical inquiry and independent learning and develops their leadership potential.” Full story and listing of May 2007 honors graduates. Alumni, friends receive Alumni Association awards
The UW-Eau Claire Alumni Association will present awards to five alumni and friends of the university May 19 at a special luncheon and ceremony in conjunction with commencement. Dr. William Klish will receive the Lifetime Excellence Award, which is presented to UW-Eau Claire alumni who have demonstrated longtime and successful commitment to their careers and communities. Elizabeth Flores will receive the Alumni Distinguished Achievement Award, which recognizes distinguished service to the community, state or nation in a manner that brings credit to the recipients and UW-Eau Claire. Diane Postler-Slattery will receive the President's Award, which recognizes outstanding professional or personal achievements or service to UW-Eau Claire. Roger Knauf and Yoshikazu Usui will be awarded the Honorary Alumnus Award, which is presented to nonalumni who have demonstrated great love of and service to UW-Eau Claire. Full story.
