'Drink Like a Blugold' Event. Several UW-Eau Claire offices will sponsor "Drink Like a Blugold: Challenge the Assumptions." Informational and participatory activities will begin at 6 p.m. in the Council Fire Room, Davies Center, and on the Campus Mall to inform students about the dangers of alcohol abuse and offer other options for campus involvement, relaxation and recreation. At 8 p.m., guest speaker Jackson Katz will take the stage in Zorn Arena to challenge students to examine their attitudes and beliefs about alcohol. Full story.
Campus Films. "Tsotsi." (U.K./South Africa 2005, directed by Gavin Hood, 94 min., rated R.) Captivating audiences worldwide, this compelling story of crime and redemption has earned countless awards around the globe. Tsotsi is an extraordinary portrait of the choices that are made in life and how compassion can endure in the human heart. Sponsored by the International Film Society. Foster Gallery Exhibit. Works by art & design faculty members Ned Gannon and Jian Luo will be featured through Oct. 5 in the Foster Gallery of the Haas Fine Arts Center. An opening reception will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. tonight in the gallery. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays and 1 to 4:30 p.m. weekends. Full story.
