Current UW-Eau Claire administrators will be assigned new responsibilities to fulfill the duties previously handled by the special assistant to the chancellor and president of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation, Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich announced May 10.
The following reassignment of duties was in response to Carole Halberg's announcement that she is leaving her position as special assistant to the chancellor and president of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation to accept a job at a hospital in Madison:
- Kimera Way will assume the responsibilities of Foundation president, though her title will remain executive director of development. This change was approved by the Foundation's Executive Committee. The Foundation's board of directors will consider a proposal in October to change the title of president to executive director and elect Way to the newly formed office of executive director.
- Mike Rindo will serve as special assistant to the chancellor and executive director of University Communications. He also will supervise the Alumni Office.
- Mary Jane Brukardt, special assistant to the chancellor for strategic planning, will assume additional duties - such as speechwriting - that had previously been assigned to the special assistant.

Blugolds advance to national softball finals

UW-Eau Claire hit three home runs on its way to defeating top seeded UW-Oshkosh 7-3 Sunday at Gelein Field to advance to the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament Championships in Salem, Va., May 18-22.
The Blugolds, seeded third in the national tournament, will play sixth-seeded Rhode Island College at 4 p.m. Friday May 18. Full story.
This will be the Blugolds' third appearance in the NCAA national tournament; they also appeared there in 1999 and 2000. The 2000 season was also the last time a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference school appeared at nationals.  May regents discussion includes UW System security, strategic planning

A commission examining university security across the UW System expects to issue a report about its findings before the start of the next academic year, the Board of Regents learned May 10 during its monthly meeting. UW System President Kevin P. Reilly appointed the President's 2007 Commission on University Security following the tragic shootings that took place in April on the Virginia Tech campus.
Reilly also announced that the Board of Regents and leaders of the UW System will begin a strategic planning process to map out how the university can best serve the needs of students and the state over the next several years. He reminded the Regents that the "Growth Agenda for Wisconsin," the UW's biennial budget request, is only a first step toward fulfilling the university's vision to be Wisconsin's premier developer of advanced human potential, of jobs, and of communities across the state.
On May 11, the regents approved a resolution directing the UW System to establish a code of conduct that will guide university agreements related to student loans and relationships with lending institutions. "We are investigating how best to create an informed service on this matter of securing student loans while at the same time creating appropriate relationships with lenders," said UW System Executive Senior Vice President Donald Mash during discussion of the resolution May 10.

| Harrison ends final University Senate chair term |

Besides Harrison, no one has served more than one two-year term, said Wanda Schulner, University Senate secretary. The University Senate honored Harrison following a special "thanks of the Senate" motion was brought forward at last week's meeting. Marty Wood will serve as the next University Senate chair. |

| Student receives 2007 Classified Staff Scholarship |

| Brian Dunn, a UW-Eau Claire freshman computer science major from River Falls, is the recipient of the 2007 Classified Staff Scholarship. Dunn was nominated for the $500 scholarship by Jan Sikora, Human Resources. Pictured above (left to right) are Sykora, Dunn and Classified Staff Scholarship Committee member Ray Francis, Custodial Services. Each year, any permanent classified staff member may nominate an eligible student for the award, and the recipient is randomly selected from the pool of nominees. More information about the Classified Staff Scholarship is available online. Upward Bound participant receives service recognition
Neena Xiong, a junior at North High School in Eau Claire and a participant in UW-Eau Claire's Upward Bound program, has been honored as a Kemps Nickels for Schools 2006-07 Extraordinary Student. Her honor is posted on the Kemps Web site and was reported in a May 3 Leader Telegram article, which quoted Upward Bound program director
Kimamo Wahome.
May 21 is NYSP Day at Mancino's
 Mancino's Grinders and Pizza on Clairemont Avenue will donate 10 percent of its sales on Monday, May 21, to UW-Eau Claire's National Youth Sports Program. All dine-in and carry-out orders from Mancino's are eligible. The restaurant is open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The NYSP program, in its 27th year at UW-Eau Claire, takes place on campus each summer and is run by University Recreation and Sports Facilities to provide area youth with an opportunity to learn sports skills and receive information about drugs and alcohol, nutrition, careers and higher education. Currently, funding for NYSP comes from partnerships with the Eau Claire and Altoona school districts and from fundraising events. Full story.
University Bulletin Special Edition coming Thursday
The spring semester of the 2006-07 academic year is winding down, and with that comes a lot of news about commencement, retirements and accomplishments. You can read all about it in a Special Edition of the University Bulletin that will be e-mailed to you Thursday, May 17.
Stories in the Special Edition will include:

- Twenty faculty and staff members retire
- Seven members of classified staff retire

This abbreviated issue will not include Calendar items, Faculty/Staff News, In The News items or Notices.
Summer Bulletin to begin June 11
 Following publication of the May 17 University Bulletin Special Edition, the Summer Bulletin will be published weekly during the eight-week summer session beginning Monday, June 11. The summer publication will carry official notices, calendar items, faculty and staff news and other news briefs.
Items for the Summer Bulletin should be sent by mail or e-mail to Julie Poquette, News Bureau, Schofield 201, by 10 a.m. Monday for publication in the following week's issue.
Publication of the University Bulletin will resume Aug. 20 to coincide with the official opening of the 2007-08 academic year.
