Following are examples of UW-Eau Claire people and programs that recently appeared in the media. NOTE: Some newspapers, including the Leader-Telegram, require free registration. Jodi Thesing-Ritter, Student Development and Diversity, Melodee Hoffner, Center for Alcohol Studies and Education, and UW-Eau Claire student Christa Peterson were quoted in the Dec. 2 Leader-Telegram article “Officials: Drinking is Community Problem.” An interview with Harry Jol, geography and anthropology, aired on the Wisconsin Public Radio show "Spectrum West" Dec. 1. Jol discussed the "Holy Sites/Sights" exhibit currently on display in the Foster Gallery. In addition, a photo of Jol and UW-Eau Claire student Jenifer Bode conducting GPR studies at Tel Yavne, Israel, appeared in the July 15 issue of Israel's leading daily newspaper, Haaretz. The photo and related article described the research conducted by Jol and colleagues during the summer. UW-Eau Claire alumnus Tom Meindel, who designed the logo used by the Milwaukee Brewers from 1978-93, was mentioned in the Dec. 1 MLB.com article "Brewers to turn back clock on Sundays." The Brewers will wear uniforms with Meindel's logo for Sunday home games next season. A story about UW-Eau Claire students' proposed referendum calling for the withdrawal of troops from Iraq aired Dec. 1 on WQOW-TV. Cheryl Starr, music and theatre arts, and UW-Eau Claire students Ashley Jo Smith and Abbie Williams were quoted in the Dec. 1 Leader-Telegram article "Beyond sweet — A stage version on 'Little Women' focuses on the four sisters' dreams, taking audiences ...." Susan Turell, Women’s Studies/psychology, was a guest on the Wisconsin Public Radio show “The West Side” Nov. 29. She joined Barbara Werner (UW-River Falls) and Donna Weber (UW-Stout) in discussing the recent staffing reduction at the UW System's Initiative on the Status of Women and its impact on campuses. Research by Justin Patchin, political science, was mentioned in the Nov. 29 eSchool News article "Programs aim to stop 'cyber bullying'." The Nov. 28 Wisbusiness.com article "Dept. of Commerce: Governor Doyle Announces $500,000 for Chippewa Valley Technical College to Establish Nanotechnology Incubator" mentions the partnership formed by CVTC, UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stout to grow, retain, attract and develop new technologies. Related articles also appeared in the Nov. 28 issues of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and the Leader-Telegram. UW-Eau Claire student John Raymond was featured in the Nov. 28 Jazz Police article "Young Man With a Horn: The John Raymond Project." Several other UW-Eau Claire students and music and theatre arts faculty member Bob Baca also were mentioned in the article. Chuck Tomkovick, management and marketing, was quoted in the Nov. 13 Leader-Telegram article "Consumers continue to benefit from growth of hands-on marketing," which appeared
in a special insert section on home remodeling and do-it-yourself marketing seminars. |
