Following are examples of UW-Eau Claire people and programs that recently appeared in the media. NOTE: Some newspapers, including the Leader-Telegram, require free registration. UW-Eau Claire student Andrei Streizek was mentioned in the Nov. 10 Chippewa Herald article "Chi-Hi band in new hands" and the Nov. 10 Leader-Telegram article "Chi-Hi fills music openings — Two hired to work through semester." Streizek will be assisting with the Chippewa Falls High School band program. The UW-Eau Claire news release, "Chemistry Professor's Research Featured in Top Science Journal," which features Jason Halfen, chemistry, was reprinted in the Nov. 9 issue of Wisbusiness.com. UW-Eau Claire's GEAR UP program was mentioned in the article "SBC Foundation Launches $5 Million to Support Gear Up Education Partnerships Across the U.S." which appeared in the Nov. 8 issues of Business Wire and Finanzen.net and in the Nov. 9 issue of WebWire. UW-Eau Claire student Nick Abraham was quoted in the Nov. 8 Leader-Telegram article “Work ethics — North grad aiding storm victims seeks to ‘build a better me.’” Thao Yang, chemistry, was quoted in the Nov. 7 Leader-Telegram article “Cure sought for U.S. shortage of pharmacists — Firms sweeten pay, benefits.” Rodd Freitag, political science, was interviewed on WQOW-TV Nov. 7 for a story titled "Debate On: Mayor vs. Manager." Susan Olson, University Centers and Programs, was interviewed on WEAU-TV Nov. 7 for a story about the Packers. Ray Hughes, director of UW-Eau Claire's entrepreneur program, was quoted in the Nov. 5 Duluth News Tribune article "UW-Eau Claire fund to invest in firms founded by recent grads," about the Blugold Angel Fund. A story about the fund also aired Nov. 5 on WQOW-TV.
