Application deadline is Oct. 3 for interim assistant vice chancellor position
The deadline is Oct. 3 for faculty and staff interested in applying for the interim assistant vice chancellor position created following Dr. Chris Lind's announcement of his retirement. Lind will retire from his post as assistant vice chancellor and director of the Center of Excellence for Faculty/Student Research Collaboration effective Feb. 1, 2006, and applications are being accepted for someone to serve in an interim capacity until a search is completed for a new permanent assistant vice chancellor. Faculty/Academic Staff Forums
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs will present Faculty/Academic Staff Forums this semester. The programs will be held from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. Wednesdays in the Presidents Room of Davies Center, unless otherwise noted. Bring a brown bag lunch or tray.
• Oct. 5: James Tubbs, political science, "Federal Power: Enumeration, Implication and the 'General' Clauses of Article 1, Section 8."
• Oct. 12: Jennifer Johs-Artisensi, public health professions, "Resident Relocation Best Practices."

Computer Science
Jack Tan and UW-Eau Claire graduate Michael LeMay had their research on e-mail security titled "Secure Electronic Message Transport Protocol" published by the U.S. Patent Office Sept. 8 as USPO Pub. No. US 2005/0198170 A1. The patent is pending and under review.
Economics
Eric Jamelske had his article titled "A look at wages and income in the Eau Claire metropolitan statistical area" published in the summer 2005 issue of the Chippewa Valley Business Report.
Social Work
Nick Smiar and Wolfgang Papenberg (director of Evangelische Jugendhilfe, Menden, Germany) co-presented a workshop titled “Keeping Everyone Safe: Prevention and Management of Assaultive Behavior in the Institution” at the Tenth International Society for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect European Regional Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect Sept. 12 in Berlin, Germany. Participants from more than 30 countries participated in the four-day conference.
