Nominees sought for McNair Program; Information sessions to be held Feb. 28, March 1
Ronald E. McNairThe Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program, named in memory of the African-American astronaut who died in the 1986 Challenger explosion, is recruiting applicants/nominations for its eighth cohort of scholars. The program provides numerous benefits to selected UW-Eau Claire juniors and seniors who demonstrate academic talent and plan to enter graduate school to pursue a doctorate.

McNair Scholars receive intensive mentoring in an environment of enthusiasm and support. They participate in the four McNair Seminars (IDIS 380, 381, 480, 481), undertake collaborative research with UW-Eau Claire faculty members, and take part in the paid Summer Research Institute. (The stipend for the 2006 Summer Research Institute is $2,800; with additional tuition, housing and dining allowances the value of the Summer Research Institute exceeds $5,800.)

The program is a federally funded TRIO program that serves students who are low-income and first-generation college students or a member of a group that is underrepresented by race/ethnicity among recipients of research doctorates. Eligible students submit an application and are nominated by a faculty or academic staff member.

Interested students, faculty and academic staff are encouraged to attend one of the information sessions scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 28, and Wednesday, March 1 from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Presidents Room of Davies Center. More information is available online or by calling the McNair Office, Old Library 2134, at 836-4912. Go to top of page
