UW-Eau Claire designers win awards in graphics competition
UW-Eau Claire staff and student designers received four awards in the graphics competition at the Association of College Unions International regional conference Nov. 12-14 at UW-Madison. In the staff division, first place was awarded to UW-Eau Claire graduate and former staff member Gretchen Dillenbeck for a brochure she designed to inform students about the university's six meal plans. Her booklet for the 2004-05 season of The Forum and Artists Series received honorable mention. Also in the staff division, UW-Eau Claire graduate and former staff member Paula Lucas received an honorable mention award for her promotional campaign for University Printing Services. In the student division, a poster designed by UW-Eau Claire graduate Josh Olk for the International Film Society presentation of "8 Women" received an honorable mention award. NET/TLTDC announce SoTL grants
The Network for Excellence in Teaching and the Teaching and Learning Technology Development Center announce the following UW System-sponsored professional development programs for faculty and instructional academic staff:
Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Grants
• Funding is available for individual, collaborative, departmental/program/college-wide and institutional projects that examine teaching and learning in a scholarly way.
• Awards range from $10,000 to $20,000, depending upon the project; some projects require a campus match.
• The local deadline is Feb. 14, 2005.

Faculty/academic staff workshops and programs
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs announces the following program deadlines for faculty and academic staff.
Program Deadlines:
• The Academic Staff Professional Development Program deadline for the second competition is Dec. 1.
• The Guest Lecturers, Artists and Other Professionals Program and the Workshops and Special Projects Travel Program deadline is the first working day of the month.
Guidelines for writing proposals for each of the above programs are available on the ORSP Web site or by calling 836-3405. If you cannot attend a workshop, please contact Betty Feia at feiabj@uwec.edu to arrange an appointment with Chris Lind or Don Zeutschel to discuss the programs. ORSP staff members also are willing to schedule departmental or school workshops on any or all of its programs upon request. 
Music and Theatre Arts
Kathryn Proctor Duax, Toni Poll-Sorensen and Larry Solberg (Communication Sciences and Disorders) presented a session titled "Your Priceless Voice" at the Wisconsin Music Educators Association state conference Oct. 29 in Madison. Proctor Duax also adjudicated the Texas Singer of the Year competition Nov. 13 at North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. 
Cheryl Starr served as an adjudicator for the Wisconsin High School Theatre Festival Nov. 18-20 at UW-Whitewater. Forty-three one-act plays and two musicals were presented. This was the 13th year that Starr was invited to serve as an adjudicator for the festival. 
Women's Studies/Psychology
Susan Turell was chosen to be president of the Wisconsin Coalition against Sexual Assault for 2005. She has served on WCASA's board of directors for one year and most recently served as chairperson of its Education Prevention Committee. 
Births and Adoptions
Congratulations to Carmen Manning, English, and her husband, Mark Mathias, on the birth of their son, John "Jack" Noel Mathias, on Nov. 13. The baby weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces, and was 20 inches long when he was born. Jack joins sisters Madeleine, 7, and Kate, 2. 
Condolences
Condolences to Heather Kretz, Admissions, whose father, Dennis Drew, died Nov. 22 in Marshfield.
Condolences to the family of Frank Wrigglesworth, who died Nov. 29 in Eau Claire. Wrigglesworth was a member of the Blugold Hall of Fame and a longtime Blugold men's golf coach. He also coached baseball and football at UW-Eau Claire.
