UW-Eau Claire student Manish Joshi was featured and quoted in the Sept. 2 Leader-Telegram article "Student thrives far from homeland — Nepal native finishing career at UW-Eau Claire." Scott Lester, management and marketing, also was quoted in the article. Carole Halberg, Foundation, had her column titled "Access to UW System can't be eroded" published in the Sept. 1 Leader-Telegram. UW-Eau Claire student Katie Henly was interviewed for a Sept. 1 WQOW-TV story about door-to-door campaigning. UW-Eau Claire graduate student Isaac Weix was featured in the Sept. 1 Dunn County News article "Ready for anything ... Training now complete, local Marine heads to 'sergeant's war' in Iraq," about Weix's upcoming tour of duty in Iraq. George Stecher, physics and astronomy, was quoted in the Aug. 31 Leader-Telegram article "Astronomers discover four new plants." Richard Boyum, emeritus, Counseling Services, was quoted in the Aug. 30 Forbes.com article "13 Financial Tips For College Kids." The article also was published on the MSNBC.com Web site Aug. 31 as "Money management 101 — 13 financial tips for college kids." Heather Pearson, Admissions, and new UW-Eau Claire transfer students Krista Buetow and Amanda Waldusky were quoted in the Aug. 30 Leader-Telegram article "Student transfers easier in UW System." The UW-Eau Claire economics department and the Chippewa Valley Center for Economic Research and Development partners with the Leader-Telegram to produce a weekly feature, the Eau Claire Area Stock Index, which appears each Monday in the Leader-Telegram business section. UW-Eau Claire student and resident advisor Laura Hulke was interviewed on WQOW-TV Aug. 29 for a story about students moving into residence halls. Wilson Taylor and Joseph Rohrer, biology, were quoted in the Aug. 28 Leader-Telegram article "Fast fall — Leaves turn color sooner this year." Rodd Freitag, political science, was interviewed on WEAU-TV Aug. 27 for a story about Wisconsin's poverty rates. New census figures show that poverty is at a 10-year high in the state.
