Training Sessions for Staff Members/Student Leaders on Sexual Assault and Alcohol Use. Faculty/staff members and student leaders are invited to a training session to raise awareness about the issues of alcohol and sexual assault. The session for faculty/staff begins at 3 p.m.; the session for student leaders begins at 5 p.m. Both sessions will be held in the Tamarack Room, Davies Center. See related item for students. "Elephant" logoCampus Films. "Elephant." (U.S. 2003, directed by Gus Van Sant, 81 min., rated R.) This dreamlike and unsettling drama, which follows students at a high school before and during a harrowing shooting, received the Palme d’Or and Best Director prizes at Cannes. Sponsored by the International Film Society. Tickets are $2 at the Service Center for IFS members and UW-Eau Claire faculty/staff or $1 for UW-Eau Claire students. Davies Theatre, 6 and 8:30 p.m. Through Sept. 12.

Presentation for Students on Sexual Assault and Alcohol Use. Incoming freshmen are invited to an interactive presentation titled "He Said-She Said" to raise awareness about the issues of alcohol and sexual assault. Zorn Arena, 7:30 p.m. See related item for staff members. Full story.

painting in progressFoster Gallery Exhibit. The fall season will open with an Art Faculty Show, featuring works by Scott Robertson and Cara Tomlinson of the art & design faculty. Robertson will display landscape-based paintings; Tomlinson will show abstract oil paintings. An opening reception will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. tonight in the Foster Gallery of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The show will run through Sept. 30. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays and 1 to 4:30 p.m. weekends. Full story.

United Way Day of Caring. The campus community is invited to participate in a variety of fun-filled (and fund-raising) activities during this year's United Way "Day of Caring." The celebration will include live music, ice cream, a dunk tank, marshmallow golf and a theme basket raffle. All funds raised during the event will go toward reaching UW-Eau Claire's goal of $49,000 for the United Way of Greater Eau Claire. Campus Mall, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. See related Top News item.
