Following are examples of UW-Eau Claire people and programs that recently appeared in the media. NOTE: Some newspapers, including the Leader-Telegram, require free registration. A guest column by UW-Eau Claire student Jessica Janiuk titled "Ignorance breeds intolerance" appeared in the April 24 issue of the Leader-Telegram. Michael Christopherson, art & design, and Christopher Cox, McIntyre Library, were quoted in the April 23 Leader-Telegram article "Salvaging history" about the bench Christopherson created from the wood of the Council Oak tree that once stood on the UW-Eau Claire campus. Johannes Strohschank, foreign languages, was quoted in the April 21 Post-Crescent article "Wisconsinites share pope’s German heritage — Immigrants key in shaping state culture." The April 19 Earth Day panel discussion at UW-Eau Claire was the subject of the April 21 Leader-Telegram article "Shrinking oil supply may force changes — Panel: Gas prices don't encourage efficiency." Panel members included J. Brian Mahoney, geology; Rula Kemp, economics; and Ali Abootalebi, political science. Chuck Major, Housing and Residence Life, was quoted in the April 21 Leader-Telegram article "New heat, windows slated for dorm." Rita Gross (emerita), philosophy and religious studies, was quoted in the April 20 Leader-Telegram article "Priests praise pontiff." Andy Anton, Gear Up program, was interviewed on WQOW-TV April 18 for a story about his Native American Awareness Month exhibit currently on display in McIntyre Library's main entrance. UW-Eau Claire MBA student Isaac Weix, who served with the U.S. Marines in Iraq for seven months, had his article titled "Up days, down days" published in the April 18 issue of The Dunn County News. UW-Eau Claire student Michael LeMay, a recipient of the prestigious National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship, was featured in the April 18 Leader-Telegram article "Student achieving at young age." UW-Eau Claire student Cody Walker was featured in the April 17 Leader-Telegram article "UW-EC freshman hits scholarship lottery," about the tuition scholarship Walker recently won through a random drawing. UW-Eau Claire student Alicia Bettman was interviewed on WQOW-TV April 16 for a story about UW-Eau Claire student participation in National Youth Service Day. |
