Nominations sought for classified staff award
The Classified Staff Awards Committee invites nominations for the Excellence in Performance Award to be given in fall 2005. The UW-Eau Claire Foundation will present $1,500 to the award recipient. Faculty, staff or students may nominate a permanent full-time or part-time (50 percent or more) member of the classified staff for the award. Nominations should be forwarded to the Classified Staff Awards Committee, Chancellor’s Office, Schofield 204, by April 18. For additional information or nomination forms, call 836-2327. Senior Americans’ Day set for March 22
The 17th Annual Senior Americans' Day program will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, in Davies Center at UW-Eau Claire. The theme this year is "Made in Wisconsin — A Positively Ageless Experience."

The program offers more than 40 workshops on a wide range of topics, including biking, computers, the environment, beauty, spirituality, organizing clutter, travel, Tai Chi, health and finance. Richard "Moose" Speros, former secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Tourism, will be the keynote speaker. He and his family currently operate the Tiger Musky Lodge in Couderay.

The cost for the program is $25 per person and includes materials, continental breakfast and lunch. Music will be provided by the Forever Young Choir. Full story, including registration information. Go to top of page

Blugold swim teams to offer lessons
The UW-Eau Claire men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will offer swim lessons during four different three-week sessions this spring. Lessons are open to individuals of any age and swimming ability. Individuals will be enrolled in either a beginner class or a class specializing in the four competitive strokes.

Registered individuals will receive six 50-minute swim lessons at the McPhee pool from Blugold swim team members who specialize in stroke technique and stroke perfection. Classes will be held Mondays and Wednesdays March 28-April 13 or April 18-May 4 from 6 to 7 p.m. or 7 to 8 p.m.; or Tuesdays and Thursdays March 29-April 14 or April 19-May 5 from 4 to 5 p.m. or 5 to 6 p.m.

Cost is $35 per person. Checks should be made payable to UW-Eau Claire. The registration deadline is March 28. For additional information or to register, contact Tammy Normand at normant@uwec.edu or 836-2546. Go to top of page

Free foreign language classes for children to be held
UW-Eau Claire students currently enrolled in the curriculum and instruction course "Teaching Foreign Languages in Grades 1-9" will offer free introductory French and Spanish classes for children in grades 1 through 5. Classes will meet Thursdays, March 17-May 12, from 4:10 to 4:50 p.m. in Hibbard Hall. Classes will not be held March 24, during UW-Eau Claire's spring recess.
