Don Mowry, director of Service-Learning, traveled with five UW-Eau Claire First Year Experience students and one senior mentor to Chicago for a Hull House Pilgrimage Oct. 23-26. The group visited Rockford College, where Belinda Wholeben, director of the Jane Addams Center for Civic Engagement, presented an overview of Addams' time at the then Rockford Female Seminary; and Rockford College President Paul Pribbenow shared the legacy of how alumna Addams inspired their recent strategic planning process. In addition to a tour of the Hull House Museum and Infinity Alternative School, the group completed several community service projects for Sarah's Circle, a daytime center serving homeless women; Good News Community Kitchen; and the Jane Addams Family Literacy Program. "This was a wonderful opportunity for these students," Mowry said.
