Instructional Design Seminar. Jonathan Paver, instructional designer, Teaching and Learning Technology Development Center, will present "Beginning the Year Right: Instructional Design Comes of Age at UW-Eau Claire. Paver will discuss the definition of instructional design and the work of instructional designers. The seminar also will address the basic assumptions of instructional design and explore the psychological and epistemological foundations of systematic instructional design. Residence Halls Open for First-Year Students.

Workshop on UW-Eau Claire's American Democracy Project. For more information, contact Provost/Vice Chancellor Ron Satz at rsatz@uwec.edu. Alumni Room, Davies Center, 9 a.m. to noon.

Fall Meeting of the University Classified Staff. Agenda: Chancellor Mash will provide an update on the university and its challenges for the future. Schofield Auditorium, 2 p.m.; repeat session: Presidents Room, Davies Center, 9 p.m.

Phase II Orientation. This program is an opportunity to welcome new freshmen to UW-Eau Claire and to introduce them more fully to the academic and social aspects of the university
before classes start. A welcome picnic featuring the Jim Pullman Band will begin at 5:30 p.m. on the Campus Mall. Convocation will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Zorn Arena. More information can be found online. Also Aug. 29.

Community Registration Night. Community members interested in taking classes as special students during the fall 2003 semester are invited to attend. A list of open classes will be available, and university staff will be on hand to help community members select and enroll in a class that matches their interests, needs and abilities. Joining forces with a resourceful girl, they discover Jimmy’s uncanny knack for video games and set off for the video games championship, eluding parents and a sinister bounty hunter. Free admission.
