Following are examples of UW-Eau Claire people and programs that recently appeared in the media. NOTE: Some newspapers, including the Leader-Telegram, require free registration. Jeremy Hein, sociology,
was quoted in the April 11 Denver Post article "Distance
from a war divides generations — Older Vietnamese watch kids
become Americans." Chancellor Donald Mash
and Chancellor Charles Sorensen, UW-Stout, were featured in the April
11 Leader-Telegram editorial, "Mash,
Sorensen have the blueprint," by Don Huebscher. Carole Halberg,
Foundation, was quoted in the April 9 Leader-Telegram article "Turf
from tap? — Council considers giving Coca-Cola exclusive contract
to aid park project." Jason Tetzloff,
history/communication and journalism, who is leading a book discussion
group at the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library, was quoted in
the April 8 Leader-Telegram article "Read
all about it — Book group aims to explore politics."
Mike Rindo,
University Communications, was quoted in the April 7 Leader-Telegram
article "Plant
closings bring request to delay state layoffs," about UW-Eau
Claire's somewhat limited ability to help residents in the Chippewa
Valley who recently lost their jobs. Kris Anderson, Admissions
Office, and Chancellor Donald Mash
were quoted in the April 10 Leader-Telegram article "UW-EC
program gives students a second chance for admittance," about
the "Access: Eau Claire" program, which will allow some
freshman to begin taking classes at UW-Eau Claire in spring 2005 rather
than in fall 2004. Anderson also was interviewed on WEAU-TV April
6 about "Access: Eau Claire." Chancellor Donald Mash
was quoted in the April 6 Leader-Telegram article "Mash
against bans on parking." Marine Cpl. Jesse Sorkness,
a UW-Eau Claire 2002 criminal justice graduate, was injured April
6 in fighting in Ramadi, Iraq, and is being treated at a hospital

Susan Turell,
women's studies/psychology, taped an interview for Community Television
April 5 about the UW-Eau Claire Center for Awareness of Sexual Assault.
She also discussed the Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual Assault
Voices of Courage education and prevention award she received April
2 in Madison. Nathan Miller,
physics and astronomy, had his article "X-ray Telescopes Reveal
Hidden Universe" published in the March 27 Leader-Telegram. The
article described the two most technologically advanced X-ray satellites
currently in orbit and how they affect our view of the cosmos.
