Foster GalleryFoster Gallery Exhibit. Featuring "Abstraction and Figurative Narrative: Recent Paintings and Drawings by Jil Evans and T.L. Solein" through March 16 in the Foster Gallery of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Evans' work reflects her interest in the dramatic, ecstatic nature of Baroque art; Solein's art is concerned with the relationships between symbolic presentations of the Self and the existential framework in which the Self operates. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays and 1 to 4:30 p.m. weekends.

Tuesday, Feb. 10
Internship Mania 2004. UW-Eau Claire students are invited to explore internship opportunities and acquire employment tips at this free event. Council Fire Room, Davies Center, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Full story.

McNair Program Information Session. Students and faculty members who are interested in learning about the McNair Program are invited to attend. The program assists talented upper-division students who are interested in attending graduate school in the arts and sciences. For more information, call 836-4912. Planetarium Program. Featuring "Constellations for Kids," a 45-minute program for children 4 and older. This show will be presented the second Tuesday of each month. Tickets are $1 and must be purchased in advance at the Service Center. L.E. Phillips Planetarium, 7 p.m.

Faculty/Academic Staff Forum. Mary Zwygart-Stauffacher, nursing systems, with collaborator Robyn Smith, nursing systems, will present "Measuring Quality: The Nursing Home Experience." Presidents Room, Davies Center, 12:10 to 12:50 p.m.

Black History Month Dialogue on Diversity Film. Featuring "Race — The Power of an Illusion," a three-episode series. Episode two, "The Story We Tell," is an eye-opening tale of how race served to rationalize, even justify, American social inequalities as "natural." Women on Wednesdays Wine and Cheese Reception. Rexann Lemke, University Police, will present "Women in the Outdoors." Lemke, an adviser to the UW-Eau Claire Rod and Gun Club, will address the issue of getting more women involved in outdoor activities. Hibbard Penthouse, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Work/Life Initiative Brown Bag Session. Vicki Funne Reed, University Recreation, will present "Take a Break — Exercise Options." Reed will discuss techniques to release stress and tension while at your desk. Presidents Room, Davies Center, noon to 12:45 p.m.

Chancellor's Roundtable. An opportunity for students to discuss campus issues with Chancellor Mash and his staff. Discussion topics include the proposed parking ban on Roosevelt Avenue, late night bus route possibilities, and limitations on the current 11/14 meal plan. Alumni Room, Davies Center, 4 p.m.

"Amores Perros"Campus Films. "Amores Perros." (Mexico 2002, 153 min., directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, rated R, in Spanish, subtitled.) Three complex stories of love, brutality, betrayal and redemption are linked by the canines that mirror and propel their owners’ existence, and a violent car crash that changes all their lives. With its propulsive rock score, this visceral, Oscar-nominated roller-coaster of a movie conveys the experience of life in Mexico City — a dangerous, passionate metropolis where rich and poor live side by side with a million stray dogs. Sponsored by the International Film Society. Tickets are $2 at the Service Center for IFS members and UW-Eau Claire faculty/staff or $1 for UW-Eau Claire students. Bobby SealeThe Forum. Bobby Seale, one of the founders of the highly controversial Black Panther Party for Self Defense, will present "Seize the Time — The Story of the Black Panther Party." Seale will explore the interconnectedness of current civil human rights issues with the world's ecological problems, new-millennium political issues and global economics. Tickets, available at the Service Center and at the door, are $7 for the public, $5 for those 62 and older and UW System/CVTC faculty/staff, or $3 for those 17 and younger and UW System/CVTC students. Campus Campaign logoThird Annual Appreciation Luncheon. The UW-Eau Claire Foundation invites all UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff to the third annual Faculty and Staff Appreciation Luncheon. All are invited to come when they can and stay as long as they wish for a complimentary luncheon buffet. Thomas and Debra King, co-chairs of Campus Campaign 2003-04, will speak briefly at noon, and door prize drawings will be held throughout the luncheon.
