Faculty/Academic Staff Forums
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs will present Faculty/Academic Staff Forums this spring semester. The programs will be held from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. Wednesdays in the Presidents Room of Davies Center, unless otherwise noted. Bring a brown bag lunch or tray.
      
Jan. 28: Patricia Turner, history, "Recovering the Social: Peasant and Village in the French Revolution."
      
Feb. 4: Steven Majstorovic, political science, with student collaborator Caitlin Lee, "Among the Hmongs in Wisconsin: Political and Cultural Attitudes Among Age Cohorts." Go to top of page

Faculty/academic staff workshops and programs
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs announces the following workshop for faculty and academic staff. A program deadline also is noted.

Workshop:
    A workshop on Research and Scholarly Activity to discuss the following programs: Summer Extramural Grant Development, Summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates, University Research and Creative Activity Program and Kell Container Corp. Scholarship for Faculty/Student Collaborative Research will be held Jan. 29, from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. as a brown bag lunch session in the Badger Room of Davies Center.

Program Deadline:

Academic Affairs
Ronald Satz had his review of Robert V. Remini’s book "Andrew Jackson and His Indian Wars" published in the December 2003 issue of the Journal of American History. Go to top of page

Counseling Services
Richard Boyum has accepted an invitation to serve on the advisory board for Off to College, a national publication which focuses on helping students have a successful transition into higher education. The publication is distributed to high schools, colleges, universities and college-bound students. Go to top of page

English
Jack Bushnell had his essay titled "Writing through Science" published in the summer 2003 issue — a special issue on science and nature writing — of the peer-reviewed journal Technical Communication Quarterly.

Bruce Taylor had his poems titled “The Belly and Its Members” and “The Parable of the Pig and the Apple” published online in Literary Salt, issue 4. Go to top of page

Mathematics
Simei Tong and co-author Dale E. Alspach of Oklahoma State University had their paper titled "Subspaces of Lp, p>2, Determined by Partitions and Weights" published in Studia Mathematica, Vol. 159, No. 2, 2003, pages 207-227. Go to top of page

Condolences
Condolences to the family of Athene Dale. Dale, a nursing professor at UW-Eau Claire for more than 20 years, died Jan. 15 in Eau Claire. Full obituary.

Condolences to Beth DeRosier, McIntyre Library, whose mother, Marjory Rylander, died Dec. 14, 2003, in Eau Claire.

Condolences to Leslie Foster, McIntyre Library, whose brother, Richard A. Leonard, died Dec. 30, 2003, at Westchester Medical Center, New York.

Condolences to the family of Jane M. Hibbard. Hibbard died Jan. 7 in Eau Claire. She was the wife of the late Richard E. Hibbard, who served as Chancellor of UW-Eau Claire. Full obituary.
