University bus route sees slight change
Revisions provide service to more students, should stop confusion
The second year of the bus transit system at UW-Eau Claire will begin Monday, Aug. 24.
The service is free to university faculty, staff and students with a valid UW-Eau Claire ID and is provided in cooperation with the Eau Claire City Transit.
Started in 1997 to provide an alternative to driving to and parking on campus, two main routes operate during the academic year.
The Water Street route will remain as it was in 1997-98, running from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday in 20-minute intervals. Hourly pickups are from 5-11 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday. There is no service on Sunday.
The Stein route, which covers upper campus, Bollinger Fields and the Imperial Circle apartments, will see a slight change that has been approved by the Student Senate, said Gary Bartlett, coordinator of parking and transportation services.
The bus will continue to make stops at the Phillips 66 gas station and convenience store to pick up students staying at the Quality Inn. To accommodate students living in the Holiday Inn Campus Area hotel, the bus will proceed to the Holiday Inn after leaving the Imperial Circle apartment area and before returning to campus. The Stein route will run 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday in 30-minute intervals. Hourly pickups are 5-11 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday.
Another change in the transit service hopefully will reduce confusion, Bartlett said. During the service's first year, buses ran in a figure-eight pattern, running the Stein route, returning to campus and then running the Water Street route. This year, the buses will run circle patterns one bus will cover the Stein route and another will cover the Water Street route.
Bus schedules are available in Brewer, the Haas Fine Arts Center, Hibbard, Hilltop, McPhee, Schneider, Towers and the south entrance of Davies Center. Call the parking office, Schneider Hall room 106, at 836-2002 for more information.
