Commencement exercises this Saturday
Mash confers degrees
One hundred and eighty-nine candidates for summer graduation will cross the stage this Saturday, Aug. 8, in Zorn Arena.
The ceremony, which will begin at 9:30 a.m., is open to all and tickets are not needed.
A total of 151 undergraduate students will receive bachelor's degrees including 72 from the College of Arts and Sciences and 38 from the College of Business. Within the College of Professional Studies, 13 students will receive bachelor's degrees from the School of Education, 27 from the School of Human Sciences and Services and one from the School of Nursing.
A total of 38 graduate students will receive master's degrees. These graduates include 12 students from the College of Arts and Sciences, three from the College of Business, 22 from the School of Education and one from the School of Nursing.
Chancellor-designate Donald Mash will confer degrees and preside over the ceremony, his first at UW-Eau Claire. Interim Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs Thomas Miller will present the candidates. University Senate Chair Susan Harrison will be the commencement marshal.
The brass quintet Quintessence will provide music for the ceremony.
Dean of Students Ann Lapp will deliver the "Charge to the Class."
Graduation candidate John Lewensten will present the "Response from the Class." A public relations major, Lewensten has accepted a position at Carmichael Lynch Spong of Minneapolis.
A reception for graduates will be held immediately following the ceremony in the Spruce-Tamarack Room of Davies Center.
