Jim Lowe participated in a panel with UW-Madison faculty
and staff, and other national representatives, to examine and evaluate
design options for UW-Madison's next generation data network June
7 in Madison. The objective of the panel was to examine the potential
and constraints of the proposed data network strategies and to provide
expert guidance for the design process.
Art
"Domesticity," a group art exhibit focusing on household
life, the meaning of home, changes in types of families and other
related topics, will be on display J
une 12-Aug. 28 at the
L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library in downtown Eau Claire. Works
by fifteen area artists will be featured including those by
Janet
Carson (emerita), Stephen Katrosits, Sangram Majumdar and
Deirdre
Monk.
College
of Business
Tom Dock has been named to the UW System Institute for Global
Studies Advisory Committee. Through a program of annual conferences
and grants, the IGS helps UW System faculty, staff and administrators
develop and disseminate curriculum and programming that will better
prepare students to respond to contemporary global changes. The
IGS was established in 1999 and is housed at UW-Milwaukee.
Communication
and Journalism
A. David Gordon (emeritus) received the 2002 Friend of Wisconsin
Newspapers Award May 16 at his retirement reception on campus. Mark
Baker, president of the Wisconsin Newspaper Association, presented
the award on behalf of the WNA and the WNA Foundation. The award
was presented to Gordon in recognition of his work as an outstanding
journalism educator and administrator, and his support and involvement
with the WNA and the WNA Foundation.

Harry Jol and co-authors including UW-Eau Claire student
Ryan DeChaine presented and published papers titled "GPR Investigations
at Qumran, Israel: Site of the Dead Sea Scrolls Discovery,"
"Archaeological GPR Investigations at Rennes-Le-Château, France"
and "Amplitude and Waveform Analysis of Repetitive GPR Reflections:
A Lake Bonneville Delta, Utah" at the Ninth International Conference
on Ground Penetrating Radar April 29-May 2 in Santa Barbara, Calif.
