Howard Luedtke and Blue Max to perform at summer concert series
A free outdoor concert by Howard "Guitar" Luedtke and Blue Max will highlight UW-Eau Claire’s Summer Session Programs for the week of July 2.
Led by one of the Midwest’s best slide guitar players, the rocking electric blues trio will perform at 7 p.m. Monday on the Central Campus Mall (rain: Schofield Auditorium). Refreshments will be sold. Audience members are invited to bring blankets or folding chairs for lawn seating.
Since its formation in 1982, Blue Max has opened shows for such big-name blues artists as Long John Baldrey, Lonnie Brooks, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Li’l Ed and the Blues Imperials, Tinsley Ellis, Jeff Healey, Jimmy Johnson, Kenny Neal, A.C. Reed, Eddy Shaw, Herbert Sumlin, Koko Taylor, Joe Louis Walker and Johnny Winter. Blue Max has three recordings on the False Dog label - "Molded by the Blues" (1992), "Live in Gleisdorf, Austria" (1995), and "Face to Face with the Blues" (1996).
These free Summer Session Programs also will be held on campus during the week of July 2:
  • Concerts by UW-Eau Claire and area jazz musicians will be presented from noon to 1 p.m. Monday and Tuesday on the Central Campus Mall (rain: The Cabin, Davies Center). A variety of grilled lunch items will be sold.
  • "Time Bandits" (U.K. 1981) will screen Tuesday and Thursday at noon and 7 p.m. in Davies Theatre. Monty Python’s Terry Gilliam and Michael Palin wrote this comedy-fantasy about an imaginative English schoolboy who goes on a time-traveling adventure with six treasure-hunting dwarfs who have stolen a map of the universe’s time portals. John Cleese, Sean Connery, Ralph Richardson, Ian Holm and Shelley Duvall costar in the 116-minute, PG-rated film.

Funded by UW-Eau Claire student segregated fees, Summer Session Programs continue through Aug. 2. A complete schedule is available from the Activities and Programs Office, Davies Center 133, 836-4833.
