Irie SolMusic on the Mall. Tonight's show will feature Irie Sol, a group whose music is a blend of reggae, dancehall, jazz, soul, rock and hip-hop. Such an eclectic blend reflects the diverse origins and influences of band members who hail from Canada, Iran, Jamaica, Korea, the East Coast, Minneapolis and northern Wisconsin. Audience members are invited to bring blankets or folding chairs for lawn seating. Free popcorn will be provided and other refreshments will be sold. "The Best 24-/48-Hours Ever" logoSummer Cinema. This summer's film series, Summer Cinema Revolution: A Declaration of Independents, continues tonight with "The Best 24-/48-Hours Ever." Originating in fall 2004 as a community film-making project in which participants had 24 hours to shoot, edit and create a short film, the 24- and now 48-Hour Video Projects have been remarkable hits. film and reelSummer 2006 48-Hour Video Project. A special summer 2006 48-Hour Video Project will take place July 14-16. The project theme is "Crime Stories." Filmmakers will have 48 hours to film, edit and put together a fictional film involving a "crime." Entrants will meet at 6:45 p.m. July 14 at Community Television. A $5 entry fee is required. Completed films must be submitted by 7p.m. July 16. Sponsored by Local Independent Filmmakers and Summer Session Programs. More information is available online. Together they will perform a sonata by the Italian baroque composer Francesco Geminiani, three neo-classic pieces by British composer Michael Head, and the Sonata for Oboe and Piano by the French romantic composer Camille Saint-Saëns.
