This year's workshop, "Numerical Solution of Non-Newtonian Flow Equations and Applications," is sponsored by Extrusion Dies Industries LLC of Chippewa Falls and the UW-Eau Claire Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, College of Arts and Sciences and department of mathematics. Irene Keenan Jr.Music on the Mall. Featuring the Irene Keenan Jr. Band. Of Irish and Native American descent, Irene Keenan Jr. grew up in both worlds and feels a kinship to the rhythms of both cultures. As a member of The Wails, she opened for many blues legends and rock acts. When that group disbanded she joined a hard rock cover band from Indianapolis, toured the west-central United States and made a 33-day tour of China. After a brief learning experience as a rhythm guitarist in Los Angeles, Keenan returned to Wisconsin to refuel, sing and play with a variety of bands. With "The Exorcist," William Friedkin rivals Hitchcock for heart-stopping terror in this deeply horrifying masterpiece that led to religious boycotts, fainting and nauseous audiences. Linda Blair plays Regan, a 12-year-old girl possessed by the devil. After exhausting all the options of science, psychology and medicine, Regan's mother realizes the supernatural nature of her daughter's condition and resorts to a religious solution, turning to Father Karras for an exorcism. Dick BoyumFaculty Member WPR. Dick Boyum (emeritus), Counseling Services, will be a guest on the Wisconsin Public Radio show "Conversations with Larry Meiller." The topic of the show will be coping with stress in a stressful world, with a focus on simple pleasures and humor. The show can be heard from 11 to 11:45 a.m. on WHWC, 88.3 FM.

William Frankenberger'Let's Do Lunch' Presentation. William Frankenberger, psychology, will present "Treating Children with Psychiatric Disorders: Is Medication Enough?" during a noon-hour session hosted by the Alumni Association. Summer Chamber Music Series Recital. The UW-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department in cooperation with University Centers and Programs will present a series of recitals titled SUMMER WINDS in July and August. Today's recital will feature flutist Tim Lane and pianist Beverly Soll performing music by 20th century Hungarian, Dutch and French composers, and Eau Claire composer David Baker. Lorie LineLorie Line Holiday Concert Tickets Available. Tickets go on sale beginning Aug. 1 for "My Favorite Things: The 2005 Holiday Extravaganza" by piano star Lorie Line and her Pop Chamber Orchestra to be held Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in Zorn Arena. A special discount of $2 per adult ticket is offered to those who order tickets Aug. 1. Tickets for the general public, available at the University Service Center in Davies Center, are $47 (main floor/reserved), $40 (bleachers/reserved) or $24 (gallery/general admission). All main floor and bleacher seats are $30 for children and youth ages 4 to 15.

"Dawn of the Dead" posterSummer Cinema. “Dawn of the Dead.” (U.S. 2004, directed by Zack Snyder, 100 min., rated R.) An unexplained plague has decimated the world’s population and yet … the dead aren’t dying. They’ve become zombies, stalking endlessly in a constant quest to feed on the flesh and blood of the few remaining living. A ragtag group of desperate survivors in a Wisconsin town seek refuge in a large indoor mall, where they must learn not only to protect themselves from the ever-increasing zombie horde, but also to co-exist with each other as a last bastion of humanity. Music on the Mall Final Concert. Matt Wahl, a singer-songwriter who plays acoustic guitar and harmonica, will perform the final concert for the 2005 summer session. Living his dream of touring and playing music full time, Wahl has created a down-to-earth, light-hearted acoustic rock-folk sound that appeals to any age. Drawing from such artists as Gordon Lightfoot, Harry Chapin and Jimmy Buffet, he mixes lyrically meaningful original songs with fun cover tunes.
