University Closed. UW-Eau Claire will be closed today in observance of the Fourth of July holiday. State guidelines specify that when an official holiday occurs on Sunday, the holiday will be observed the following Monday.

Tuesday, July 6
Summer Fitness Classes. The following free fitness classes will be offered during Summer Session. Summer Cinema. "The Hudsucker Proxy." (U.S. 1994, directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, 111 min., rated PG.) When Waring Hudsucker, head of hugely successful Hudsucker Industries, commits suicide, his board of directors, led by Sidney Mussberger, comes up with a brilliant plan to make a lot of money: appoint a moron to run the company. When the stock falls low enough, Sidney and friends can buy it up for pennies on the dollar, take over the company, and restore its fortunes. They choose idealistic Norville Barnes, who just started in the mail room. Norville is whacky enough to drive any company to ruin, but soon, tough reporter Amy Archer smells a rat and begins an undercover investigation of Hudsucker Industries. Concerts in the Park. UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education and the Indianhead Arts & Education Center will sponsor a series of summer concerts at the Shell Lake Pavilion in Shell Lake. Tonight's concert, performed by the Jazz Faculty begins at 6:30 p.m. More information is available online.

Music on the Mall. Featuring ethnic flutist Peter Phippen. A professional musician for the past 25 years, Phippen spent his early career days as a bass guitarist and recording artist. But in 1987 his first flute — a 25-cent bamboo whistle — found its way into his hands, and wooden flutes became his solo instrument of choice.
