Memorial celebration for associate professor emerita Signe Ortiz planned
A memorial celebration for Signe Midelfart Ortiz, associate professor emerita of art, will be held Saturday, July 3, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Ecumenical Religious Center at UW-Eau Claire.
Ortiz, who taught in the UW-Eau Claire art department from 1959-79, died March 19, 2004, in Walnut Creek, Calif.

Janice Bogstad delivered a paper titled "The Science of Magic in C.J. Cherryh's Russian Folktale Series" at the Science Fiction Research Association
Conference June 3-6 in Skokie, Ill. A longer version, titled "Shifting Ground: Liminal Subjectivities in C.J. Cherryh's Slavic Folktale Trilogy," will appear in the book "A Cherryh Odyssey," edited by Edward Carmien, Wildside Press, 2004, in press. 
Music and Theatre Arts
Alexandre Dossin performed with the Bessler String Quartet June 14 in Porto Alegre, Brazil. He also led a master class June 15 at the University of Sao Paulo in Sao Paulo, Brazil. After a few weeks back in Eau Claire, Dossin will return to Brazil to perform a solo recital June 27 and a concerto with orchestra June 29. 
School of Education
Katherine Rhoades co-authored an invited essay titled "Who Cares: A Tale of Two 'Good Daughters'" with her sister, Sarah W. Jacobson, professor emerita at North Dakota State University. The essay appears in the current issue (winter 2004, Vol. 33, No. 2) of the online journal of the Association of American Colleges and Universities.
