Full story.Kiplinger's best values again include UW-Eau Claire In Kiplinger's national 2008-09 "100 Best Values in Public Colleges," UW-Eau Claire is ranked 65th for in-state students and 63rd in best value for out-of-state students. The rankings are based on academic quality, overall costs and financial aid availability. "These rankings continue to demonstrate the excellent reputation of UW-Eau Claire for providing an extraordinary education at very affordable costs," Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich said. "In the economy of today and into the future, those college graduates will be best prepared who are able to transition between many careers over a lifetime. This adaptability and flexibility is achieved through a sound liberal education, experiential learning opportunities and developing a passion for both a field of study and for learning. These are the hallmarks of a UW-Eau Claire degree." Full story. UW System Board of Regents meeting update An aging academic workforce is expected to exacerbate the already competitive climate in which UW System institutions work to recruit and retain their high quality faculty and staff, the regents were told. The impact of the “graying” academic workforce on UW’s competitiveness relative to peers was discussed as a factor to be considered in UW’s annual pay plan review, which the Board will address at its December meeting. UW-Eau Claire Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich spoke during the discussion of offering professional doctoral degrees at UW System comprehensive universities, noting that offering doctorates would promote the sustainability of those institutions. Levin-Stankevich was quoted in Badger Herald coverage of the regents' meeting. The regents also honored two professors and one academic department with the presentation of their 16th annual Teaching Excellence Awards. The 2008 recipients are Douglas Heil, professor of communication at UW-Oshkosh; Nate Splett, associate dean of the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences and professor of agricultural economics at UW-River Falls; and the department of mathematics, statistics and computer science at UW-Stout.
