CIE seeks host families/friends
The
Center for International
Education is seeking host families/friends for international students
arriving for the fall 2008 semester. Host friends are asked to meet
their students on arrival, provide a weekend home stay and stay in touch
with their students once per month. Home stay dates are Aug. 22-25.
The Host Family/Friend Program encourages intercultural communication
and understanding, as well as support for newly arriving students. Contact

Staff Forums this semester. The programs will be held from 12:10 to
12:50 p.m. Wednesdays in the Presidents Room of Davies Center unless
otherwise noted. Attendees are welcome to bring a brown bag lunch or
tray.

Patti See presented "'Reel' Teachers:
Depiction of 'The Professor' in Contemporary Film" at the 38th
Popular Culture Association Annual Conference March 19-22 in San Francisco,
Calif. 
Computer Science
Several computer science faculty members attended the 39th Technical
Symposium of the Special Interest Group in Computer Science Education
(SIGCSE) March 12-15 in Portland, Ore. Paul
Wagner presented a paper titled “A Query Simulation System
to Illustrate Database Query Execution.” Daniel
Ernst and Daniel Stevenson
also attended the symposium and related workshops. 
Music and
Theatre Arts
Dale Taylor (emeritus) delivered the
keynote address at the opening of the 2008 Conference of the Southwest
Region of the American Music Therapy Association March 27 in El Paso,
Texas. He also presented a seminar titled “Applying Biomedical
Music Therapy in Professional Practice” at the conference.
Political
Science
Ali Abootalebi gave a lecture titled
“Culture and Society in the Muslim World” March 17 at the
Fond du Lac Public Library. 
Condolences
Condolences to the family of Beatrice Lebegue. Lebegue, a retired UW-Eau Claire secretary, died April 2 in Eau Claire. Full obituary.
