Computer Science
C. Michael Morrison and Joline Morrison attended the Midwest Instruction and Computing Symposium April 20-21 in Grand Forks, N.D.
Mike presented a session called "Creating a Secure Architecture for a Peer Review System" as well as a session with Joline titled "Using SQL Queiries to Generate XML-Formatted Data." UW-Eau Claire students Erin Johnson and John Koenig presented "Development and Implementation of the Honeynet on a University-Owned Subnet" under the supervision of Paul Wagner.
Geography and Anthropology
Harry Jol was a co-author with UW-Eau Claire alumnae Holly Johnson and Jen Bode; Curt Peterson (Portland State University); and Moshe Fischer (University of Tel Aviv) on a paper titled "GPR Imaging of the Subsurface in 3D: Examples from a Coastal Site (USA) and an Archaeological Site (Israel)." The paper was presented at the Geological Society of America Annual Meeting Oct. 22-25 in Philadelphia, Pa., with the abstract published in Abstracts with Programs, Vol. 38, No. 7, page 60. 
Learning and Technology Services
Rick Mickelson's article "The Birth of a DAM Photographer" is featured in the spring 2007 issue of The Contact Sheet, Journal of the University Photographer's Association of America. Bill Hoepner provided a photo illustration for the article. 
Music and Theatre Arts
Jerry Young chaired the euphonium/tuba quartet competition adjudication committee at the Mid-South Regional Conference of the International Tuba/Euphonium Association April 20-22 and delivered a lecture for the event's special high school day on making preparations to enter a college music major program.
The third edition of Young's "Arban Complete Method for Tuba," first published in 1996 and the continuing best-selling method for tuba worldwide, will be released by Encore Music Publishers in July. 
Sociology
Jeff Erger presented a paper titled "Social Structural Effects on Evaluations of the Ethics of Medical Decisions" at the Midwest Sociological Association Annual meetings in Chicago, Ill. The paper, co-authored with UW-Eau Claire student Stacy Bonneville and Melissa Bonstead-Bruns, sociology, investigated how people's backgrounds situations affect the judgments others make about the "ethicalness" of the medical decisions they make.
Student Development and Diversity
Earl Shoemaker presented "Graduate School Exploration for First-Generation College Students" at the Tri-State Conference for TRIO Personnel April 26 in Rochester, Minn.
Births and Adoptions
Congratulations to Andy Jepsen, University Recreation and Sport Facilities, and his wife, Amanda, on the birth of daughter Avery Laurel on April 27. The baby weighed 5 pounds, 5 ounces.
