Chancellor Mash appointed to UW System position
UW System President Kevin Reilly has appointed UW-Eau Claire Chancellor Donald Mash to serve as UW System executive senior vice president, the UW System announced Feb. 4. Mash will begin his new position March 1. See UW System news release. "I am most grateful for the terrific support I have received from the UW-Eau Claire campus community during my time here," Mash said in an e-mail message to the campus community. "I am continually inspired by and proud of the outstanding work that is being done here, and I have tremendous respect and admiration for those of you who are doing it day in and day out." Mash's UW System position is made possible by Reilly’s restructuring of UW System administration and the cost savings from eliminating two positions: senior vice president for administration, which will become vacant March 1, and vice president for University Relations, which was eliminated as of Feb. 1. The combined position is one of several efficiency and effectiveness initiatives President Reilly included in his report to the Joint Legislative Audit Committee on Feb. 1. (See related University Bulletin story.) Vicki Lord Larson recommended for interim chancellor post
UW System President Kevin Reilly will recommend to the Board of Regents during
its February meeting that Dr. Vicki Lord Larson, a former longtime professor
and administrator at UW-Eau Claire and retired provost from UW-Oshkosh, be the
interim chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire starting in early
March. Pending the approval of the Regents, Reilly will appoint Larson, 60, to the
interim position to provide leadership to the campus while a search is conducted
to replace Chancellor Donald J. Mash. "Vicki Lord Larson is a strong, capable and experienced leader," Reilly said. "And her roots and her heart are in Eau Claire. I am confident she will do all that is best for the campus and the community." A search and screen committee for a permanent successor will be named in the coming weeks. Full story and related links.
NYSP receives top U.S. program award
The award-winning National Youth Sports Program at UW-Eau Claire is once again the top NYSP program in the country. The National Youth Sports Corporation recently selected UW-Eau Claire for the Silvio O. Conte Award of Excellence for 2004. It is the third time UW-Eau Claire has received the prestigious award, an unmatched achievement among the 205 programs in the nation. UW-Eau Claire also received the honor in 1991 and 1998. NYSP was created in 1969 as a free summer camp aimed at economically deprived families. Boys and girls ages 10 to 16 receive academic and sports skill instruction, said Lisa M. Schuetz, activity director for UW-Eau Claire’s program. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services funds the program, and the USDA summer food service program provides food. The program helps young people acquire good health practices and become better citizens. It also provides them with opportunities to learn various sports skills, participate in sports competition and improve physical fitness. Full story.
Accelerated nursing program to begin in 2006 Jamelske named new budget officer
Stephanie Jamelske has been named budget officer for Academic Affairs at UW-Eau Claire, Provost and Vice Chancellor Ronald Satz announced today. The appointment is effective Feb. 17. Jamelske — a financial specialist for UW-Eau Claire's Continuing Education office — will replace Robert Bolles, who left UW-Eau Claire in January. As budget officer for Academic Affairs, Jamelske will report directly to Satz. Before moving to Eau Claire, Jamelske was an associate budget analyst for the state of California's department of social services in Sacramento.
"Stephanie's extensive budgeting experience in a complex government organization in California and her outstanding work in Continuing Education make her an excellent choice for this position," Satz said. "Her knowledge of UW-Eau Claire's programs and people will be extremely helpful as she moves into the budget officer position." Full story. UW-Eau Claire alters "directory information" definition under FERPA Recently the Registrar’s Office, in conjunction with Academic Affairs, has made a slight alteration to that listing. “Marital status” has been removed, and “College” has been added. This means that information regarding a student’s marital status is now protected by FERPA, and the information about a student’s college may be publicly shared. View an online tutorial for additional information about FERPA. If you have questions or would like further information, contact Sue Moore, registrar, at sheltose@uwec.edu or 836-3887.
